If I decide to get rid of my 3DS for any reason and buy a replacement, what happens to the games I purchased on the console? How do I get them back on my new console if the eshop is linked to the console and not you?

Games go bye bye!
However if you keep your old one you can do a system transfer providing you have internet access.

Really? So what happens if your 3DSis stolen or breaks? You still lose the games? That can't be right.

I don't know why you people always ask about your 3DS's getting stolen or breaking. Just keep it somewhere safe.

if its stolen its gone if you need a new 3DS keep your current one buy a new one transfer all the data from one system (your old one) to the other system (your new one) USING THE SYSTEM TRANSFER TOOL, do NOT do what some people do by taking the sd card out of your old one and putting it in your new that dont work ok. then sell your old one. with the sytem transfer though if the two systems disconect then all your data may be lost but the chances of that happen are like 1in 1,000,000

Ok so if I buy a load of downloads, they will automatically go to my SD card right? So if I pop the SD card in a new system, the games will be there?

It doesn't seem as easy as PSN.

If you're worried about potentially losing your games, either buy physical copies or keep your console to do an eventual system transfer. Nintendo's stated they're working on an eventual account-based system for handling this, but until then, if you're worried just go physical for now.
