Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies sees the return of Phoenix Wright as the main character, after his lawyer’s badge was stripped from him in Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. Phoenix will work with fellow lawyer Apollo Justice and lawyer-in-training Athena Cykes to confront a force that seeks the destruction of trials and courtroom procedures. Miles Edgeworth, Trucy Wright, Pearl Fey, and Klavier Gavin have all been confirmed as returning characters.

Gameplay switches between trial and investigation segments, where players will gather evidence to use in court. Players will switch between Phoenix and Apollo at various times between the game, and players will also be able to make use of Athena’s “Mood Matrix”, a device the player can use to match witnesses’ emotions to specific portions of their testimony to press more information out of them, as well as Apollo's percieve ability using his bracelet to discover nervous twitches and habits that indicate when a witness is nervous or lying. Phoenix's ability, creating Psyche Locks with his Magatama, also returns.

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies is the first game in the Ace Attorney series to be rendered in full 3D, which, in addition to visually enhancing the game, will allow investigation scenes to have multiple views of the same room that can be navigated between. In addition, the game will feature animated cutscenes, a first in the series.

Pre-order bonuses include a statue of Phoenix, alternate box covers, stickers, and a zipper 3DS case modeled after Phoenix’s suit and tie. DLC is also available as a pre-order bonus, in the form of alternate costumes, a new case, and a quiz. In the west, The costume DLC will be free for a limited time, and the new case will be available shortly after. The quiz DLC will be omitted due to it requiring in-depth knowledge of Japanese culture.

The game released on July 25, 2013 in Japan, and is slated for October 24, 2013 in the US/Europe. Outside of Japan, the game will be limited to digital download only.

Sven at Capcom Unity had this to say about why the game is download only in the west:
"We worked very hard to ensure a Western release on this title. If we'd said "no, it's not coming", it would have triggered the inevitable "please bring it to eshop, at least" cries. Instead we shortcutted that and brought it straight to eShop."

Well I guess by you have heard the news that this game will be coming to NA but digital only. Thoughts on it?

My thoughts are I think this is a bad choice by Capcom exclude people who or cant buy digital. Sadly I will be missing out on this one since I refuse to be forced into buying digital. I am sure mainly of you dont see it that way but honestly for those that do get it I hope you enjoy it.

Better than not getting the game. Remember Investigations 2...

I'm starting to wonder if Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney will also be released as an digital only purchase if it gets localized.

Currently Playing: Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re- Boot Camp (NS)

Personally, I'm not a fan of digital, but, like Ralizah said, I would rather it be this way than to be a repeat of AAI2.

Not a fan of Phoenix's voice; sounds to young. As for Kokone's new name, I don't like it either, so I'm just going to continue calling her Kokone.

I've changed the title to make this an overall discussion thread, and I will rework the op to contain all of the information we know.

I was planning to upgrade my 2GB SD card sometime this year anyway, but now I'm definitely going to get new one before fall. I just hope it doesn't take five years to download; even in the cases of smaller eShop titles/demos (and especially DLC), my 3DS can take forever to download stuff.

Pretty much how I feel about the digital-only announcement. I will almost always buy physical copies when given the option, but if an eShop-only release is the difference between me playing Ace Attorney 5 and me not playing Ace Attorney 5, I will bite that bullet with a smile.

There is a lot hanging on this game selling well, not only the possible localizations of AAI2 and AA v. PL but also the chances of getting other visual novel style games in the west such as time travelers..... I hope it sells well, I"ll be buying day one

It would be nice if the game has a budget price on the E-Shop to around £25-£30

Why are we talking about an EShop game on the retail releases part of the forum?

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Because I think at the time the OP started this thread they didnt know it was going to be a digital only for NA.

With that said I see the point where some of you are saying well I want this game to sell really well so even though i want a physical copy I am just going to buy the digital copy anyway to show my support. But for me I am sorry yes I wanted to play this game and I do hope it does well but I feel that Capcom just gave people who want a physical copy the shaft. I know Capcom wont see it that way and if it does bad they will just say oh well those games dont do good in NA rather than hey you know what lets do both digital and physical so we are hitting both markets in NA. Honestly thats what gets me with this whole thing, and honestly any smart business person would see it that way.

Except people are becoming more accepting of digital purchases, digital Purchases bring in more money, and dedicated fans will buy it regardless. Not to mention those fans happen to be a relatively small group of people, so they need to make sure they maximize on their returns on every purchase. I honestly think this is the smartest decision they could have made, even though I'm not exactly happy with it either.

At least we're still getting it. By the way, was PW always rated PEGI 16? I remember it being PEGI 12.

I've mentioned before that FE/MonHun/SMT are my main trio of games that have no good reason to not be legit popular in the states. Phoenix Wright isn't quite to that level, but still if Capcom is actually in the right for thinking the fanbase isn't large enough to justify a retail version (which is a possibility at the very least), that is a problem. What is wrong with society?

I hope the Wiiware versions helped the series popularity or something...

I hope they re-make all the Phoenix Wright games digitally on the 3DS. I wasn't able to get them when they were in stores but now I can find any of them in local stores.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
