Okay, kinda wanting a new 3ds xl. My boy just got one and now I want to grab one for myself.

So New 3ds xl or New 2ds xl?

I am actually wondering if the 3ds is the way to go over the 2ds, bigger stylus, and a replaceable battery. I think the replaceable battery might be the bigger deal. Two or three years from now when the battery does not hold much of a charge I would like to easily replace it.

Thoughts?
I will wait before jumping into the Switch.

@jgwcaster It really comes down to if you care about the 3D effect. Personally, after more than 5000 hours of play and hardly 10-15 of which I used the 3D, I don't care about it. But I know others who swear by it. If your son has one, play his for a while with the effect on and off and decide which you prefer. Also keep in mind not all games support the 3D effect.

I have the New Nintendo 3DS XL, and the DS lite. I was against 3D all the time for years, specially having young children.

1 month ago I started playing Super Mario 3D land, and Zelda Ocarina of Time. Now I will say:

It worth to pay just the little extra to have the 3D. If you are going to get a new device, the New Nintendo 3DS XL. You can set 3D off for younger children.

I was debating this recently, not being a huge fan of 3D in general. But I found a used 3DSXL on-line (in great condition) for $150, so ended up spending the same amount as for a new 2DSXL. Also, I believe GameSpot carries them for $170. Anyway, the 3D is fantastic. I use it much more than I thought I would, and really enjoy it. Some of the games just wouldn't be the same without it. Like someone else said, you can always turn down/off the slider if you want 2D.

I read that the SD card is more accessible on the new one, and the grip is better. But neither is an issue for me, so I'm glad I picked up the 3DS.
