Topic: New 3ds xl Hinge problem? moves side to side with Visible gap

Hey all its been 3 days since i bought my 3ds xl
its working fine but i noticed something that bothers me
the top screen moves left to right side to side slightly like 1 mm but
when u move it side to side u can see the a slight gap and if i look into it
i can see some metal of the hinge.. is this normal? i think the side to side is normal
but the gap tho that u can see the metal is this normal?

help would be appreciate it
i rly dont want to return it its a hastle but if i have too i will

I bought a New 3ds Xl Galaxy model a little over a week ago and I have the exact same thing . Unit works perfectly fine . Interested to hear if others have the same thing on their XL's

I also have a new 3ds and the build quality on that unit is better in my opinion .. But sometimes those big screens on the XL are definitely great

can u also see the metal through the gap? should i return it

I'm by no means an expert, but I purchased a black new 3DS XL in May 2015. Mine does the same thing. I've noticed that the top screen is a little more wobbly than a DS Lite. I vaguely remember reading something that the top screen was looser to prevent the hinge from cracking. I haven't had any issues with my screen. Depending on the game, sometime I hold the top screen with an index finger to stop it from moving. These would be situations in Ocarina of Time 3D when you're aiming with the gyros for the bow or Super Mario 3D Land, & you're looking through the green binoculars.

It is designed that way to keep the hinge from breaking if it is dropped. Your unit is 100% A-OK.

well i know it sopose to wobble im not talking about wobble tho im talking about the screen moves horizontal left to right side to side if i lets say slide it all the way to the left on the right side will be a small 1 mm gap and if i look through it i can see metal is this normal?

i know the floppy wobble thing is normal but is not what i ment tho

Yeah, mine does the side to side movement as well, & I see the metal. I wouldn't worry about it.

alright thanks maybe i wont return it then but it does bother me u sure all are like this and not some in there that doesnt? kinda want one that doesnt but if it doesnt exist then no bother

I can't really confirm. My evidence is anecdotal. I don't personally know anyone else with a new XL, so I don't know if there are those without the issue.

My refurbished Gamestop model does the same. I was worried it had to do with them not truly fixing it, glad to hear it's normal. Though it's interesting since my boyfriend's new New Galaxy New 3DS doesn't move side to side.

Both the wobble and the gap are on purpose. They are all made that way. And yes, it bothers everyone.

yes but do you actually see metal if u look through the gap tho i do not sure if the exposed hing is bad or not
