So I once got my stuff transferred from my old 3ds to the new XL which I have now. So the problem I have is that when I get the new 3DS, how should I do the transfer? Because when transferring is complete, the system will recommend to use the SD card from the other system to the new one. So will that also be the same thing for the New 3DS as well like I need to use the micro SD card to switch it to my old SD card and then paste that data to the Micro SD card and put that one on my XL and then do the transfer on the new one?

If that's the case, then what Micro SD card are you guys using that works with your existing systems? Does it need to have a specific color for it to work like how my SD card is plain blue or something? Will Sandisk work for sure?

You'll need a PC to do the transfer. Copy the files from the SD to the PC, and then from the PC to the MicroSD.

No...

With so many different SD cards on the market, it's best to just stick to a brand that you trust. If you like Sandisk, then you'd do well to just stick with Sandisk.

I think the best thing to do is get the cheapest tested one. I got LSD32GBBEU200 last time. (They will list which ones they tested again fairly sure of it).

Ok...like I'm confused. What exactly is an SD card adapter and can that work with SD cards instead of Micro SD cards?

And now I'm puzzled as how Micro SD cards look like..... do they use adapters or does it come by itself?

An SD Card adapter is shaped like a regular SD Card, but has a small slot for a Micro SD Card - it's required to connect it to a PC.
But there's an easier method for the N3DS: it allows data exchange between itself and a PC via wifi. I don't know how it works exactly, but you should be able to transfer your data from your 3DS SD Card to PC, and then upload it directly to your N3DS (once you have it, obviously).

This is what a microSD plus an adapter looks like:

The adapter is the same size and shape as a regular SD card, allowing your microSD card to fit into the SD card slot in your PC.

@Barbiegurl777 I wrote something then re-read NL's system transfer guide to make sure I was right, when I read this:

As the video at the end of this article explains, you should be prompted to put your original SD card in the XL after the transfer, with more instructions to then follow. If you then want to upgrade from a 2GB card to 4GB after the process, copy the 2GB contents to your computer and transfer them to the 4GB card.

I hope this has been changed or something. New 3DS has no full-sized SD Card slot, only a MicroSD slot. It's because of hardware size limits, they wanted to make it more powerful but couldn't fit a full-sized SD Card slot onto it.
So if it prompts you to put in the same old SD card, you really are screwed, because it won't fit in. I don't think Nintendo would overlook that, but it'd be nice to know.

I keep hearing the SD Card data from the transferring system is transferred to the MicroSD in the New 3DS... Is that true? If so, before you transfer, maybe you can put in a MicroSD large enough to hold everything from the transferring SD Card and use it fine? Is anyone with a Japanese system able to confirm how this works?

Edit: Wow, I'm really screwing up today, I forgot the N3DS isn't out in Japan yet. Well, if anyone finds out once it does, please tell.

There is another feature listed of doing something to do with files via a computer.

A little bit lost in this thread..

But it looks like just another data transfering issue.

Tip, if the new SD card already has save files on it.. copy them all on your computer.. and delete them. You want the SD card you're transfering to, to be like new never used.

@unrandomsam Ah, keep forgetting about that.

@Stormatopod17 But (according to NL's guide) you have to insert the old SD card into the system transferred-to before you can use a new SD card with the same data. New 3DS has no slot for fully-sized SD cards, which would make that impossible.

I'll just wait until it's out in Japan and try not to think about it much.

I mostly posted the video for @Barbiegurl777 who's having issues. Worked perfectly fine for me the other day.

Not too sure how the micros work but I don't really see a difference other than the adapter.

if you transferred the data to a new SD card already you can do whatever you please with the old one, format it, mess with the files or use as a Shuriken

Reguarding the new 3ds.. I still don't see a difference.

Micro SD card vs. regular SD card.. one needs an adapter. The end.

According to this- http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/997614-nintendo-3ds/70336135

If your using a micro SD card in an adapter in your 3DS/2DS then once you get the New 3DS there is now an option during the transfer process to just swap out the Micro SD card out of the adapter of the old 3DS and put it in the New 3DS at the end of the transfer.
