Topic: "New" 3Ds Release Date for UK/Europe? + General Questions

Hi Everyone,

I won't bore you with the details but I was given a 3Ds today as it was unloved by it's original owner. This has got me rather excited as there seems to be a plethora of Kirby games available on the DS/3DS and it's a undisputed fact he is the best.

I know that the "New" 3DS is a thing but can't find a credible specific release date for the UK/Europe just "next year" or "sometime in 2015" is anyone here better informed?

Finally I don't have any games yet but I have my eye on a few. In your opinion is it better to buy digital games or the hard copies? I'm trying to think ahead to the future when the next "non-DS" console (if there is such a thing) comes out perhaps it won't be backwards compatible but digital games might still work? What do you think a non-issue at the moment? Thanks ever so much for your time.

Best Wishes,

Nope, there's been no information on New 3DS release date for Europe or NA.

No information at the moment, but probably at the end of next year.

I will update this when Half Life 3 arrives. [Started 17/11/2015]

I prefer digital for the convenience. Having all of my games right there on the system without having to lug around cartridges and switch between them is worth it to me. I guess it depends on how many games you plan on buying or how much storage space you have. Nintendo "officially" says 32GB is the limit (for 3DS, not sure about New 3DS), but if you reformat a larger capacity card to FAT32, it'll work. The card I'm using is 128GB. I love it, because it gives me the peace of mind to never have to worry about running out of space. I buy quite a few games, but my card will very easily take me through the entire generation.

I think it's safe to bank on the next Nintendo handheld keeping the DS set up. I don't think we'll see a revival of the Game Boy line, going back to a single screen. As long as the next DS keeps the same architecture and uses the same storage format, it should be backwards compatible with DS and 3DS games.

New 3DS will probably be released in late January or mid February next year. I have no solid info, this is just an "educated guess".

Nintendo already said that the reason N3DS is not coming to EU and USA this year is that there is plenty of unsold 3DS' sitting on European and US shelves. They are probably aiming to drastically reduce the stock this holiday season (Black Friday and Christmas should do the trick). As for the release date, I'm leaning more towards mid February, since in January most people recover from their credit card bills.

Regarding games, as long as Nintendo refuses to incorporate similar account system to PSN or Xbox Live, I'd recommend buying physical copies of the games. Nintendo's handhelds were always backwards compatible (AFAIK), so I don't think you should be afraid of your games not working on next Nintendo handheld (which will probably come out in 2017.).

It's already similar. Outdated, but similar. It is possible, and really not very difficult, to recover all of your games if you ever need to replace your hardware.

I agree that Nintendo made some strides towards more modern solution for digital account/games, but there is still notable difference in ease of use when compared to PSN/XBL. Of course, it doesn't take a genius to do a system transfer, but still...

Thanks guys for the replies I had seen "New" 3DSs on Amazon.com but on closer inspection they are Japanese imports. I admit late last night I saw this didn't look any further and assumed North America had got their hands on the new system as well as Japan.

As for digital vs non-digital I'm torn it'll depend if I can get all the Kirby games digitally I guess. Thanks again all have a nice day.

Well you could always import one from Australia as it releases end of November. Australia is the same region as EU/UK

If it's true that they're delaying the release of the New systems in NA and Europe because they still think the 3DS has good selling potential, I'd guess Europe will get the New systems last, because 3DS sales peaked in Europe later than in NA.
