You are correct, the plural form of a noun is typically used with 0. Just one of the many strange things in the English language.
I didn't understand this move until I saw the size of the box in the shops. I reckon the cost difference if you include distribution would actually be a lot more than the actual cost of the thing. But the solution to the whole thing would be pretty simple, all the needed to do is change the connector on the back to Mini-USB (i.e. the same thing on the Wii U Pro Controller) rather than their proprietary connector.

I am lucky since I have four or more chargers sitting around the house. I can't trade my Pokemon XL in anyways since the outer camera doesn't work and some games that I put in my XL don't always show up on the home menu.

While I do think the New 3DS XL should come with a charger, people are acting like it's the death of Nintendo just because it doesn't even though everyone forgets 3DS chargers are sold separately. Also, in Europe and Japan, chargers have been excluded from the packaging since 2012 with the 3DS XL, although game stores in Europe and Japan are probably far more well-organized than pig-pen GameStop.
