eh, this isn't a common occurrence in America and the majority of electronic devices come with a charger. Its the same as apple selling a iPhone without the lightning cable. Now I won't mind putting down $10 for a new one, but say little timmy's mom buys a New 3DS XL for him and will be pissed off once she gets home and there's no way to charge the thing.

Yes well, iPhone chargers (the new ones) cost $40. That's a bit steep.

True enough, like you said before its not that big of a deal I just looked on amazon and I found a charger for $5. My problem comes from the common user who might not be aware if they're buying from a non gamestop big box.

It will be a valuable lesson for them to do research before they buy products then lol.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Nintendo would be wise to leave a warning on the box. That would help a bit

You should definatly do a bit of research on a product you are about to spend 200 bucks on.

I got the game.co.uk once as it was the only one I could get there and then and the end pulled off it on the first day. (I ordered the proper one when I got back anyway).

This might make sense if the new 3DS XL cost less, or the same as the original 3DS XL when it was new, but even without the charger it costs like $30 more. (Or $80 more compared to a 3DS XL when on sale.)

Y'know, I think this was a dumb decision, but I'm not really upset over it. I mean, the Game Cube didn't come with a memory card, and that sold fine- wait a minute...

Okay, I may have shot myself in the foot, but I still think it's not a big deal. I have plenty of chargers here, and buying one doesn't cost that much. It may cause them to lose a few sales, but I'm sure it won't be a dramatic loss. I mean, if someone really wants a New 3DS, they're gonna buy a New 3DS regardless.

Come on people, over here none of the revisions came with the adapter. Not the DSi/3DS XL and now it doens't with the New 3Ds which is loggical. If you've ever bought a system you already have the charging cable, I still have mine from the DSi besides the one I got with the 3Ds. This method has worked flawless in EU and JPN, NA is the only region to have ever given out AC adapters with their revisions and honestly it's time for you guys to catch up.

Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am

Everyone should have a few anyway.

"Oh I forgot my phone charger and my phone is dying." This will never happen to you if you just buy 2 phone chargers. Leave one at home and carry one around with you in your bag everywhere. Problem eliminated. Do the same for your 3DS.

While you're at it, buy some extra charging cables for your phone, controllers, etc and just leave them in a drawer somewhere. Maybe buy a toilet plunger too, because if you're the kind of person that doesn't buy a charger until you actually need one, maybe you're also the kind of person that doesn't buy a plunger until your toilet overflows.

Always buy a charger before you need a charger and never rely on having one shipped with the device. I have 3 of these, 5 of these, and who knows how many of these. Couple of these for good measure, in case I'm in a jungle with no USB ports. Make an idiot-proof plan for keeping all your devices charged and you'll never have to think about it again.

Or maybe it's just my practice since "batteries not included" was a real thing when I was a kid and everybody had a drawer filled with AAs and AAAs. I still have that drawer filled with AAs and AAAs, but now it has USB chargers in it too.

I had the same problem with my Japanese 3ds the chargers aren't the cheapest either

From what I read you can pick up refurbished charge cables from Nintendo for $5. The chargers might be cheap but the packaging and box design might be more expensive than most people realize.

yep. They want to save money, which ironically, will probably end up making them lose money because nobody wants to trade in their current XL model without being able to keep it which Gamestop in NA requires you turn in. So yeah....

....Seriously? :/
sighs

Well they require it because the system was sold with it. Since EU doesn't get chargers they probably don't require it. GameStop is going to have to stop requiring it for New 3DS XL

...Well...at least Nintendo sells the chargers on their site....still. Ugh...T.T

Also when you trade in your system without the charger GameStop charges you the amount for a charger, basically taking that out of how much they give you. So you can trade in your system without the charger you just won't get the highest price. There may be an issue if they don't have the charger in stock but you should be fine.

Oddly enough I tried to trade in my old last-gen DS and they wouldn't take it without the charger.

Here's the difference. Toilets WILL get clogged, batteries WILL die. You won't definitely lose your charger. Sure, you may run out of battery on the road, but not everyone has a big problem with that. I don't take my 3DS out of my room that often, and when I do, there usually isn't a power outlet available.

I spoke to my local gamestop in the DCMDVA area and they told me that the 3ds can be turned in without the charger but you will be charged 10 bucks. Current trade-in 3DS values sit at $80. $70 without the charger. A sidenote: Is it normal for the limited edition 3ds not to be carried in store? The guy told me that the MH4U bundle would be shipped to my house when I ordered it in store. They don't carry them in-store. WTH man?

Sounds like you have your charging needs met then. It's nice when problems solve themselves so easily.

Seriously though, the point isn't having enough. It's about having enough to cover yourself in case this, in case that. Have a back up plan. You may never lose your charger, but it's still a good investment to have two.

I also have a fire extinguisher, which I'll probably never use.

I was so annoyed about this when I bought a regular 3DS XL and found it didn't have a charger, but I can sort of see why it makes sense at this point though. The vast, vast majority buying a new 3DS will be people upgrading. If people didn't fancy buying a 3DS already with it's great library, I seriously doubt an analog nub that's used in a couple of games is going to sway them. I'm pretty sure this hardware upgrade was Nintendo's way of boosting 3DS sales since they'd tailed off worldwide, and they couldn't figure out how to sell to new people, so figured they'd just re-sell to the current owners.

In my opinion, two chargers is enough for a household with one device, but this thread consists of people who disagree.
