Topic: New 3DS Memory Thread

This thread I created is all about storage on the New 3DS. I'm a little disappointed about the memory switch. I have a 32GB SD Card that's a few GB from being full, so I might need a 64 or 128GB Micro for New 3DS. The problem? Can it support memory THAT high? Will I have to make room for EVERY NEW GAME?.....just thinking ahead. I know it won't release for a little while.....

The New 3DS can only use 32 GB micro SD cards maximum. You can use 64 GB and 128 GB SD cards on the 3DS if you format them to FAT32, so I'm guessing the same will be possible for the New 3DS, except that it will be with micro SD cards instead. And keep in mind that there is a limit of 300 downloads at once on the 3DS, but they might change that though.

I'm hoping you can convert the bigger micro sd cards into FAT32 and use them. I don't want to go back down to a 32GB memory card.

I guess the best way is to wait and find out! I think we will know for sure when New 3DS hits Japan. It would be nice to not have to convert them anymore because why restrict memory?

I sure was disappointed to find out that the New 3DS would not support SDXC. I can deal with them switching to Micro SD, but I think I will eventually fill my 32GB card!

You could always use multiple 32GB micro SD cards if you need the space. Though, it would be a bummer if you lost a card. Unless you could backup the games on a computer, then you'd just have to buy another card.

It doesn't use SDXC, just SDHC so however high you can format one FAT32 you should be safe and that's it. I know it sucks for a minority who are big buyers of digital content who get a lot of eshop games and/or don't bother buying game cards, but that's just how it is unfortunately. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me seeing how much space I lost putting that free copy of DKCR3D from the platnium award on mine.
