Relax, guys. This is just a list of DS games with (GBA) Slot-2 features would obviously not work on DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, 2DS, New 3DS and New 3DS XL. Slot-2 features aside, these games will remain fully compatible with all DS and 3DS models.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

Can you guys say this for a fact? Can you read Japanese or at least provide a reputable source? Because all I'm seeing is hearsay.

I think that the new 3DS will be incompatible. Why else would they even have this list when the 3DS could play them...

Guys. Come on. We've already figured out that this isn't a list of games that won't play. It's a list of games that won't work right because of the change in location of the game card slot (so add on peripheral won't work), and games with special interactions with the DS's GBA slot that will otherwise function fine.

Everyone calm the hell down.

I own most of the games listed and most, if not all, don't have any special interactions with the DS's GBA slot.

Remember this is a Japanese compatibility list. So some Easter egg based interaction might not exist in North America.

I actually didn't think Knights in the Nightmare had interaction. But it turns out there is an Easter egg if you put a copy of Yggdra Union (which did come out in North America) in the GBA slot you get an Easter egg during tutorials.

The Phoenix Wright series was originally on GBA in Japan (only DS in North America) so it's not surprising if a latter Phoenix Wright title has interactivity in Japan only.

So relax. These compatibility issues ALL READY EXIST ON CURRENT 3DS HARDWARE. It's not new at all.

I don't remember Pokemon Dash or Bleach using the GBA slot at all.

Pokémon Dash used Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Fire Red/Leaf Green for extra race tracks. Hadn't even heard of Bleach before this thread

Pokémon Dash used the GBA slot to unlock special courses based on Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, and LeafGreen - maybe Emerald too, but I can't remember for sure since I think Emerald was released after Dash. (edit: damn it I got ninja'd, I'm gonna remember that the next time I play Grumble Volcano)

As already stated, the three sections of this page are just to confirm which incompatibilities will occur when the games are played on certain hardware. The games can be played in most instances, but not all:

Section 1: 3DS games which can't be played on New 3DS due to the location of the game card slot
Section 2: DS games which won't work with a peripheral (or can't be played) on 3DS, DSi, or DSi LL due to the lack of a GBA slot
Section 3: DS games for which any GBA interlocking functions can't be used on 3DS, DSi, or DSi LL due to the lack of a GBA slot

Well, to support the idea that whoever found this got it wrong and jumped to conclusions, the top banner of the page says this:

Now, I may not speak Japanese but that sure says New 3DS/New 3DS LL/3DS/3DS LL/DSi/DSi LL.

That leads me to believe this list of incompatibilities actually involves all these systems (the 2DS does not exist in Japan, so it's obvious they won't list it). Which means it's not new.

Ah, so this scare is meaningless. I was very confused about why some DS games wouldn't be compatible

It just seems to be a list of games that have features that aren't compatible with the new systems because the GBA slot is missing

There's also 3ds games that can't be used due to the location of the card slot... But these are pretty much japanese exclusives and were only compatible with the original model.

Example:

If you Google translate the information underneath that:
"The New Nintendo 3DS / New 3DS LL / 3DS / 3DS LL / DSi / DSi LL, for Game Boy Advance software can not can use. Also, you can not use or Nintendo DS peripherals is inserted into the Game Boy Advance slot, the interlocking function with the Game Boy Advance cartridge. Note that, in the New Nintendo 3DS / New 3DS LL, since the position of the game card slot and Nintendo 3DS / 3DS LL / DSi / DSi LL is different, some software will be non-compliant."

So no it is referring to just the New 3DS won't be compatible with some DS games.

Well there you go. So all it means is that you can't use the pal park function on HeartGold and SoulSilver. Has nothing to do with not being able to play the game at all.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

The Megaman games had GBA interaction -> putting in the corresponding GBA games in would net you extra bosses in Megaman ZX as an alternative to fighting Omega Zero to unlock Model Ox.

The other games on the list, like Gundam G Generations or Super Robot Wars are there for the same reason -> inserting their GBA predecessors would unlock extra units and dialogues.

The same for Phoenix Wright (inserting GBA carts unlocked all cases to the state in the GBA save).

The same for everything else.

TLDR: It's about the SLOT-2 incompatibility, let it go. The only actual DS games you won't be able to play would be those dependant on the GBA slot for additional controller features (Guitar Hero) and even then some of these were optional (Space Invaders Extreme).

Harvest Moon DS (and DS Cute/DS for girl) also uses the GBA port.

Inserting the corresponding version of Friends of Mineral Town unlocked new marriage options, items and events. And the tombstone of your GBA character would appear in the DS game.
