It's not too bad, but I really do miss the color-change option from the original DS's firmware. And, of course, the DSi's make-your-own-wallpaper-with-photo's option.
The thing I miss the most from the DSi menu is when you get something new, you can place it right between two games. Now you must move everything to the left, and I like organizing by game type.

I have envisioned an awesome XMB/NXE inspired menu in my head that would work great for 3DS, but what's the point in posting about it except to disappoint me when nothing changes in future updates.
What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.
light on the buttons would be weird..and drain alot of battery... but if anything the folder ideal would be nice cause after a while the menu is going to be full...then where is the stuff gonna go
a random question, is lights on a cell phone number pad weird?
Currently playing : 3DS (Zelda 4 Swords) : Dsi (Pkm Black, SRTEF) Owns: Pokemon Platinum; Kingdom Hearts, 358/2 days; Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor,MK7,KI:U,SM3DL,SF643D,LOZ3D,RE:M Waiting for Mario Kart 7, Mario Land 3D 3DS FC 0860 3463 9315
wat nintendo "forgot" to do was to add a slight dim light to the 'home' ,'start', 'select' panel. I hate fumbling in the dark to press the button. or even better why not add a bit of light to the buttons for better night playing options. most gamers after playin get familiar wit the buttons lay-out but add a lil light for those of us (older folks prefebly) who struggles still.
two of my friends were playing mario kart ds and he turned the game off accidentally thinkin it was the start button (dsi start button and 3ds power button same location) so maybe a lil light for the home panel might drain the batt more bt it mite save sum frustration Light to the buttons drain the battery even more. And the light from the screens let's you see which buttons in they dark.

I have no problem at all with the home menu. In fact, I'm very fond of it.
I don't want an OS-like approach with folders and whatnot, I just want a bin full of toys, which is what I have. Currently I have it set to display in three rows, and I get to scroll through that little collection of playthings each time I pick it up, looking for something fun to do (of which there is no shortage, especially with all these great VC games coming in, free 4 Swords, built-in games and apps, videos, etc). The instant rearrangement when you zoom in or out is also great fun.
EDIT - but you're absolutely right about the START / SELECT buttons. That's one of the only things I'd change in a redesign. Well, that and the ridiculous new top position for the stylus.
I havent bought anything on the eshop yet, but I love the home menu, but I liked the suggestion about being able to create folders....just like on the Apple products just drag one game over another game and create a folder. Would be sweet.
