I'm also hoping for Super Mario Galaxy 3DS! It would also be nice to see something like Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island on 3DS along with a new take on Yoshi Touch and Go but this time the game would be centered around depth perception, the slider feature and accelerometers, tilting and all that; a bit like the Super Monkey Ball games.
To bad Nintendo hasn't thought about or rather talked about introducing a new character that could be either a squirrel or a hamster, although I'd prefer a squirrel.

What about Mario's Time Machine for NES/SNES?
Whatever they do, I think they should go back to Super Mario 64/Sunshine styled levels. Galaxy was fun and all, but too linear for my tastes and it lacked the feeling of exploration I enjoyed in the older games.
Whatever the game is, it's going to be a big game just like all of the other 3D mario platformers. I can't wait to see it.

I always thought it would be cool if the made Super Micro Mario. You'd be tiny and would travel into postcards, much like mario 64....but with postcards!
I think the next Mario game should be open-world, where you can go around Mushroom Kingdom (on foot, by pipe or by kart) and collect coins to spend, defeat enemies that wander around and stuff like that. There would be tons of challenges to take up, such as defeat a boss enemy, win a kart race, rescue some princesses, etc. It would mix up gameplay from all Mario games (except the sports games), like Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, Mario RPG, Mario Galaxy, and others. I just think open-world is the way forward for Mario.

It really is a question though of "where do you go after space?" I like the open world mario idea, though I fear that if they try to do too many types of gameplay in one game, none of them will be very good (see 3D Sonic games pre-Colors). I wouldn't mind a new Galaxy on 3DS though, since I think 3D could really bring a lot to Galaxy gameplay.

Wasn't Mario is Missing about Bowser kidnapping Mario, then Luigi has to travel to the real world to save him? O_o World was about Bowser kidnapping Peach again while they were on a vacation in an exotic land of strange creatures, which Sunshine (partially) borrowed as well. I don't see the relation, or am I missing something? xD
I actually kinda think a Super Mario game taking place in dreams is a cool idea. Dunno how Nintendo would be able to effectively pull it off, but I'm pretty sure they could.
