Hello everyone! I know this question have been asked countless of times probably, but I still hope to get a answer specific to my case.

So I've never owner a Nintendo product my whole life, and I am planning to get a New 2DS/3DS XL end of year after my high school finals ends.

So it is a tough choice between the 2ds and 3ds xl, because the 2ds xl is not cheap here compared to the 3ds xl.

The 3ds xl cost roughly 224 USD, which seems reasonable, BUT the 2ds xl cost a shocking 216 USD, although it do comes with a game, either Zelda Tri Force Hero or Mario, which both I have totally 0 interest in. Really I'm just playing Pokemon on it XD Hype for USUM

This is the reason why I have no idea what to choose. I personally do not care about the 3d function, and I really love the turquoise buttons on the 2ds xl, but seeing I only need to pay a extra 7.30 USD for the 3d function, what should I do? I do not like the button colours on the 3ds as they blend in with the 3ds, making them hard to see, at least from the photos. But I prefer the case of the 3ds compared to the 2ds's because the 2ds looks a little childish.
Also, another question, I do know that the 3ds do not come with the AC adaptor, but it do have the cable, so am I able to use my own charger to charge the 3ds, or do I need the AC adaptor?

The new 3ds xl does not come bundled with ac adaptor - thankfully these are only $3-5$ or so on ebay and you can find them for $10 or so at walmart and max ($20) elsewhere. I personally feel like some games need the 3d aspect in order to play properly - like super mario 3d land. Other than that it's kind of gimmicky you won't be dissapointed with either the 2ds xl or 3ds xl.

If I were in your shoes, I would go ahead and shell out the few extra bucks for a N3DS XL. You've already mentioned that you like the form factor better and aren't interested in the bundled offerings with the 2DS XL. Plus, while most games look perfectly fine without the 3D (some don't even use it a majority of the time), I feel that it adds to the experience when it's on for other games. Some games like Bravely Default and A Link Between Worlds look much better with the 3D, IMO.

Ultimately though, it's your money and your decision. If you're still not fussed about the 3D, you could buy the cheaper 2DS XL bundle and resell the game if you don't want it.

My NL usage will be down a little from September 25-27. I'll be at a work conference.

Thanks for the reply! I am currently more towards the N3DSXL now as although plain since only white, blue, black are available, I just discovered the wonders of decal skin! And paying a extra 10 bucks for the 3d effect seems a little more worth now, even though I'm probably not using it.
The games that come with the 2ds seems hard to sell for a decent price :/ maybe only around 15 dollars, so it do not cut the price of the 2ds that much.

Thanks for the reply! Is the AC adaptor really necessary? Can we just use our own adaptor (those that you use to charge your phone) to charge the 3ds?

No you have to use a Nintendo charger. The New 3DS XL doesn't use a micro USB charger like a cell phone or tablet
