Last week, the New 2DS XL was launched in Japan, and it had a very successful launch, selling over 43 thousand systems and easily beating the second-best selling system, the PS4, which sold over 36 thousand systems for the week. With all 2DS and 3DS models combined, Nintendo's handheld "hardware family" sold over 58 thousand units just in one week thanks to the launch of the New 2DS.
The New 2DS launch also helped several games, with Hey! Pikmin being the best-selling new release after PS4's Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.
Typically, Nintendolife has reported about the Japanese sales on Wednesdays, but now the Japanese sales article is curiously absent when the New 2DS XL was launched and is at the top of the Japanese charts. What gives?
@Tasuki Hah, there have been a lot of those on NL lately. I'm not really interested if some hackers are copying Switch games from the game cards, and it just makes it look like NL is desperate to write any Switch "news" that they can.
I understand that it's a grey area but any coverage seems like you're supporting it. I am all for the preservation of older games like NES for example but come on these hackers aren't doing Switch games for preservation it's cause they want free games.

@itslukec No it wasn't. PS4 sold over 36 thousand systems. Switch sold over 31 thousand. That's PS4 second after New 2DS XL or the whole 2DS/3DS hardware family.
It's whole different deal with the New 2DS XL, which just sold 43 thousand systems, and with the rest of the 2DS/3DS hardware family on top of that, they sold over 58,000 systems in just one week. 9 out of the top 20 games were for 2DS and 3DS systems. 6 were for PS4..
For one week in one region with a hardware. Globally the Switch has outsold the 3DS by ~3x so far this year. It's the best selling piece of hardware in both the US and Japan and is behind only the PS4 globally. In terms of software? It's a bit further behind because of the lower install base but in the US for software sales so far this year it's ahead of the 3DS already.
Actually, the latest Nintendo financials just released show that 2DS and 3DS systems sold close to a million in the last quarter, and that's for a hardware platform that now has sold 67 million worldwide. That was also when Switch was still having its post-launch hype that has now died off, from April to June.
So yeah, Switch sales have fallen, 2DS and 3DS sales have kept steady, especially 2DS models. And this was all before the launch of the New 2DS XL.
