Topic: NA Bravely Default Demo Impressions

Blast

So a huge Bravely Default demo released today if you live in North America like me... I would love to talk about the demo with others.
First things first... if this demo is so huge and massive... why the heck is there a 30 limit demo usage?!?!?!?! Why isn't it unlimited like that Theatrhythm Final Fantasy demo for 3DS!? I can't believe we're limited to just 30 uses.
Secondly: Make sure you change Jobs repeatedly. I tried a battle without changing any of my allies Jobs and I nearly got wiped out in the desert. Make sure you change Jobs!!! Freelancer can only go so far.
Three: The graphics and gameplay are very impressive.

What do you guys think?

Am I allowed to post my opinions even though I live in Europe

2. I forgot this aswell on my first time and got wiped out so I got myself some armour and equipment and changed class and it got a ton easier!
3. I liked the graphics and gameplay quite well and hope they make a sequel!

@Metroidlink LOL that's fine. You can post your thoughts!!! I think a sequel has already been confirmed for Japan
I just switched Jobs again. These enemies take so much HP in one hit.

Wow. The default and bravely gameplay mechanics in the game are awesome. I defend aka Default, the enemy does damage, I choose bravely and unleash some major attack points. I'm liking this demo now even though its still vague on everything.
BD reminds me so much of Dragon Quest: Sentinels of the Starry Skies except with wayyy more content and story. HOWEVER.... I actually felt like I was experiencing my own adventure in DQ: 9. I don't feel that way yet in Bravely Default.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

There's a lot to do...but it's all grinding. There's almost no story, and what is there is phoned in. The difficulty is also suprisingly high, and I actually felt the need to grind a little just to improve my class level so I could learn some useful skills. Spread out across an entire game, the class system will be interesting. I know this because it works the same way as the FFV class system, which is the best class system. However, in an area like this where monster levels vary drastically, and you're forced to change classes often...it's not going to go well. You're always gonna need someone with Chivalry abilities, since class level seem to affect stats (seeing as when my class level went up, I was suddenly hitting way more and took way less damage). To put it simply, this demo exists to show off a class system that's not meant to be used in this manner.

I have never been so disappointed by a demo before. :/ Yet I know I'll still like the full game. I'll still finish the demo for those voucher things, but I won't like it.

I'll say this, though: The boss battles thus far have really shown off the battle system. They also taught me that when you get something like a Wind charm, that sounds like it'll be used only in specific instances, it's probably because that instance will be coming up very soon...

@CanisWolfred Agreed. I am grinding alot but I find the battle system to be pretty fun. I wish there was more story too but this demo reminds me so much of that amazing Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance demo for 3DS. That demo was just a tease and a touch of what to come. I feel the same from this Bravely Default demo. I'm actually really excited for this game.

Also... MAKE SURE YOU GUYS TRY THE COOL AR MOVIE BEFORE YOU LOAD YOUR SAVE FILE!!!

I quit the demo in like fifteen minutes, I think. Someone told me to get beast livers or something, I went out into the desert, I fought some things in generic JRPG format, it took what seemed like forever to kill two snakes and a cat, and then I questioned whether I wanted to do that four more times, said "No." and went back to playing VVVVVV instead.

I'm going to assume that the actual game is vastly different from the demo, because if it's anything like it then I have no idea what all the hype is about.

I'm glad to hear that the demo is nothing like the main game. Don't get me wrong I thought the battle mechanics were really fun once I got the hang of them, but the demo made it seem like the game was just gonna be one giant grind fest. It also didn't explain jobs or any of the special moves, I had to go digging for that myself. I'm still excited for the main game, but I feel like this demo, much like the monster hunter demo, will be more of a turn off to people who try it.

This demo is a lot of fun so far. The job system is neat, and, like Fire Emblem: Awakening, I can tell job-switching to get different abilities will probably figure prominently into the meat of the gameplay. The combat is challenging, at first, until it "clicks," so to speak. I now absolutely adore the risk/reward associated with braving and defaulting. I love how the demo doesn't bury you in tutorials but just lets you figure things out on your own. Music is awesome, as expected.

I love what i see so far! Don't even mindthe grinding as i miss that in good old rpgs. That might not work so well in todays world though but i love doing that in older games like nes Dragon Warriors. It gives you that sense that you can go a little bit further and prioritizes the use and purchase of items. Most rpgs now a day have items but i never use them. Graphics are as good as ive seen on the system for rpgs but the animation is top notch! I miss traveling an overworld in most modern rpg. I hate it when you just click a town and instantly travel there. Everything about this game is what i remember about the 16bit era! When rpgs were king!

I don't really get this video's point since Bravely Default is designed to be a throwback to older JRPGS where battling was just as big a part of the draw as the plot. I guess it would have been nice if the demo touched upon the characters in some way, but I don't think all gamers would be turned off by a demo which doesn't.

I also didn't mind the grinding much either since random encounters weren't just about attacking until all the foes were down. Some battles (the mushrooms and the goblins come to mind) required just as much strategising as some of the bosses to make sure that the enemies didn't summon more mooks or hit the characters with status conditions.

I think the only thing that disappointed me was the dungeon design, which I can understand since it's just a demo.

I think for an extra bonus side quest for free, you really can't complain. It exists to show off the amazing graphics and introduce you to the battle system mainly. I find the battles fun, even if I am losing huge chunks of HP at first. Taking the time to explore is also fairly fun, and it makes sense the story is kinda small. The only thing is that it'll be hard to streetpass anyone with a demo of a game. >__> So I actually have to wait like 10 hours for an old lady to remove a rock... and the Japanese I'm sure are all maxed out. That'll affect review scores here for sure (assuming this is the same as the real game).
The main town layout/camera angle is also really unique and caught me off guard.

You didn't buy equipment, did you? Or Pick your classes? Or utilize the Brave/Default System? Because even at level one those things should've gone down in 2, maybe 3 turns at most.

Alright so I guess I'll download the demo today... but, not being a fan of turn-based RPGs, I'm not sure how much I'll like this...
