Hey all

i finally found a new 3ds xl that has a ips panel.
i bought it new in the store i searched the serial before hand online it said it was ips (and it rly was) i guess the system is old? because it came witb firmware 9.5 but what i find weird is when i unboxed it turned it on for first time the battery light was flashing red meaning its almost dead i thought new 3ds xl came some what pre charged .. is it because the console has old firmware so it said in a box for a while and lost its charge over time? i rly dont want to return it risking of losing ips panel

All batteries lose charge over time - even when not in use. The N3DS is only 18months or so old, so the battery should be absolutely fine. Just charge it up and play. It's recommended that all new products are charged before use anyway.

@Andrzej777, apparently Nintendo uses two different kinds of screens for the 3DS.

Some have TN screens, which I think the colors slightly warp/fade when looking at them from an angle/the side. Others use IPS screens, which keep their color no matter where you're viewing it from. Most average consumers won't notice the difference, so they use both types of screens in production, but some people can be a bit of a stickler about what screen(s) they get (both the top and bottom screens can be one or the other).

I honestly had no idea this was even a thing until someone made a thread about it, complaining that their 3DS had a TN screen instead of an IPS screen (it was quite awhile ago, so it wasn't the same OP), and since then, I've seen more & more people bring it up.

I ended up with a TN screen on mine. I was bummed. It definitely made me think less of Nintendo that they didn't stick with a standard screen.

Yeah, I have an OG 3DS, and apparently it's a TN as well (when I look at the screen from the side, this page's red header looks more pink than red, for example).

However, I don't intend on playing my 3DS from an angle (and I can't think of many examples why anyone would), so I really don't see it as an issue. Not that I think that it's silly to go out of one's way to get an IPS screen (as I understand & respect that some around here are tech heads), but it's something I think 95% of 3DS owners won't even care (or even know) about.

If you see an IPS screen in person you will clearly notice the difference. It is like a modern phone vs an old school phone.

@RR529 actually the recent influx of screen-type and system defect complaining has been mostly made by this same user, they had at least one puppet account.

Of course, I don't know if the thread you're talking about is one of the recent ones.

Bloop.

@Meowpheel, no, the first thread I ever remember bringing up the screen discrepancy was either late last year or early this year, so I don't think it was the same poster.
