Of course it is it could be implemented entirely offline without ongoing costs. (They have already had a whole boatload of money from people with say 3 games that work with it). Or just save the file to something using webdav. The hassle they are having is of their own making.
the bank isn't stupid the stupid part is forcing people to get it in order to use the Poké Transporter. I mean no one normally reaches 3000 Pokémon so it IS a HUGE bonus that's not needed for the full enjoyment of the game(kinda like a standalone DLC)

I already have both Deoxys and Arceus waiting to be transferred from Black Version 2 and Black Version, respectively (got them from events)... but Jirachi so far (if I'm not mistaken) could only be gotten from the Colosseum Bonus Disc, so... it's due for a new distribution.

Pokebank depresses me because I lost my copy of white 2 (along with many other games, the box I had them in simply disappeared) and I had every single important pokemon there, from gen three to five: events, trained mons, shinies and other ones I'll never be able to get back.
