Sounds like it's a good device. The only problems were getting used to the 3D and the controls, then.

Problem is not the word I would have used. The power button position seems an odd choice, but after a day of using it, you'll have totally forgotten any previous layout. The controls were perfect in that you used them without thinking. When flying in Pilotwings, I was using the circle pad without realising it. You can't get better than that.

As for the 3D, that was just an initial uncomfortable feeling as the depth was changing whilst fiddling with the slider. After the first encounter with it, I had the 3D effect on full for all other demos and was fine.

Just got back, The Street Fighter and Resident Evil things were just hilarious. I didn't actually get to try that many games but I'll write a bit about the games I did play.

Pilotwings: The games looks really nice, I was actually quite surprised at how smooth it looks, but the 3D effect is really strong so I turned it down about half way. Gameplay was simple and fun and it seems really relaxing.

Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D: Looks even better on the actual screen, the 3D effect is quite subtle but makes aiming easier, especially when you're throwing grenades. Touch screen streamlines the items a lot and made it a lot easier.

DOA: Dimensions: Really nice looking, everything seems clean and smooth. I'd never played a DOA game before but it was really easy to pick up especially with the touch screen schortcuts. 3D can be a little weird at max setting, I had it about 3/4 up. Even though the framerate is only 30fps in 3D it doesn't slow down but either setting is cool.

Kid Icarus: Looks really good, it has a really coherent art style which is both detailed but really clean. This is the game that felt best in 3D, it adds an extra bit of visual punch especially when enemies jump up right in front of you. The controls work well but it takes a minute to adjust to the ground controls.

The Legend of Zelda: Games looks nice texture wise but the environments are a bit blocky, 3D works well and well it's classic Zelda, again the touch screen helps streamline stuff.

Lego Star Wars III: Only got a chance to play this for a minute but I was really impressed. The game looks really great with lots of detail and great use of shaders. Touch Screen works well even when you use a thumb. I heard the game had some framerate hiccups but I never experienced any.

Nintendogs+Cats: This game is really cute and looks great, the 3D effect is quite subtle in this game until your pet jumps up on the screen and then it's like 'wow!'. Silhouette on the touch screen worked really well, much better than I thought it would.

Rabbids: The game is a solid, but unremarkable 2D platformer and the 3D doesn't really add much until you die(when a Rabbids smashes the screen). The game didn't seem crazy enough really... could do worse though.

AR Dragon Game: This game is really trippy, it looks like the boxes are actually there, I can't wait to get a proper taste of this. I had to leave shortly after awaking the dragon.:(

You guys are so lucky you got your hands on a 3DS. I would give anything to just get a taste of one. But of course NOA are being lazy bums and not telling us Americans when we can try it. sigh....Oh well, just 49 days to go until launch :)

Oh yeah, that does kind of suck for you guys even though your wait time is slightly shorter. I want the 3DS so badly though that I would gladly pay the price you guys are getting it for :(

You'd pay $350 for a 3DS. Nintendo needs more people like you... actually US is paying less than both Japan and Europe which is kind of unfair. Wait don't countries in the Euro pay even more than us Brits?:O

Yes, if the 3DS cost 350 dollars, I would buy it. same thing if it cost 400, 450, 500, or whatever. I ALWAYS get new Nintendo hardware no matter the cost. It's been that way since the N64. Even little things like the Gameboy Micro or the DSi XL I simply had to have no matter how pointless they were. What can I say, I'm a slave to Nintendo and the games.

Thanks man, I was hoping that was the answer I would get. I'm actually really excited about the paused gameplay, it's a highlight for me on the PSP and long reading sequences for RPG games. ;)

I'd also like to drop in that I'M JEALOUS! :O Haha

Thanks for taking the time to post this excellent review.

I was going to go to the Bristol event next weekend, but I have convinced myself to wait. I want to experience the 3DS at home, in my own time, with a beer ..
