Topic: Moving - region lock question for Smash Bros

Hi everyone.

I currently live in Canada and own a 3DS XL. I've already bought the original one before, so this is my second 3DS. I'm moving to Japan at the end of this month and I wish to play Smash Bros over there and obviously, it would be friendly for my wallet to take my current 3DS, and just get an North American version game/download from eShop.

Now, will I be able to play with other people who own the Japanese version of the game with a Japan region locked 3DS? Does anyone have any idea? Sorry if this question was asked before. I hope it would work globally like Pokemon, but could not find any info.

I am not sure if you will be able to do online play with them but you should be able to do local play.

It all depends on the game. Some games cross over and some don't. Smash bros. and Pokemon will work. Monster Hunter will not.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll just have to get the NA version and cross my fingers, although from the looks of it, it looks fairly promising.
