Well I know most of the new stuff in Generations will be in the next game like Arts/Styles, and even Deviants. But if the director is going to do that "monster appears and rawrs, name appears, cutscene over" thing, or "This monster appeared, get stronger and kill it because it's doing stuff."....Then yeah I'd like a new guy. xD

There was more story to Gore than the others...the main story wasn't even about him at first. Just helping some guy find out the origin of a gold scale. Then you encounter and kill him, only to find out the virus is still spreading, then Gore turns into Shagaru (who has an epic intro in that game, lol). 4U expands on that in high rank with the virus and Apex Seregios.

Lagiacrus? "Earthquakes is happening, it's Lagia, kill him. Oh wait it's not him, just some random Elder."

@Joeynator3000
Monster Hunter has always had a bad/ highly simplistic, incredibly straightforward story. 4U wasn't much different- it just presented itself a bit better.
Would I like them to dive into the series' lore (which there is a decent amount of in Japanese artbooks and the like)? Certainly.
The one thing I will agree with you on is that the Fated Four weren't really flagships-- they were just monsters. Welcome additions to the 4th generation roster, certainly, but not one of them had the significance of a true flagship (with Glavenus coming close).

Eh, at least Mizu introduced a new status...but my point was 4U's story had more to it than "kill Gore". Kinda want them to go back to that.

@CrazedCavalier I don't find Gammoth bland to fight... it's unique if nothing else. Few things are as intimidating as one coming a-swinging with it's trunk at low health, plus it can be good at catching nappers, whether by sucking gunners or quickly shattering/kicking back snow on greedy blademasters. For me it's Astalos that's the bland one; for a supposed rival to the King of The Skies it doesn't fly much (at least Seregios had his own spin on aerial maneuverability), and his charging mechanic ends up just making him easier to defeat faster in practice (along with it's lengthy recovery on it's bread-and butter moves). Still fun, though. I think the real reason Gammoth isn't popular is that it's gear just doesn't quite measure up the other fated members (high rank set's pretty decent, though, particularly for Rajang farming).

@meleebrawler I really enjoy Astalos (though admittedly that's personal bias talking). The thing with Gammoth is that it's a slow, massive monster. It's an HP sponge who's more annoying than genuinely threatening-- it generally spends half the fight trying to kick snow on me. And then there's the fact that it's trivialized with Aerial-- the majority of its body is a mount zone.
It's kind of a shame that the one member of the Fated Four who has a completely unique skeleton ended up underwhelming.

Also, I actually got a fair amount of use out of both Gammoth sets-- tremor resistance and partbreaker especially put in work on the high rank set. Again, I'd actually argue Astalos has the most niche set-- Repeat Offender isn't really useful for most setups, and halve stun is a luxury; not a necessity.

Mizutsune is the only one that bugs me, but for other reasons (freakin' plates, lol). But yeah Astalos is fun to fight, for some odd reason I purposely get hit by a charged wing slam. xD
I found Gammoth somewhat annoying in high rank, kicking me with hind-legs constantly. And Glavenus...I dunno, screw him. lol

@CrazedCavalier Mostly I was referring to the Gammoth weapons; they're decent, but underwhelming compared to the generally better sharpness and affinity of others. As for Astalos's set, it's main downfall is not so much Repeat Offender itself, but offering little else besides it. The skill by itself is still pretty potent at low rank (basically about extra 25% affinity for a mere 10 points), especially for gunners, but later the Deadeye and Toka sets offer better synergy.

Those complaints leveled at Gammoth could apply to almost any big, slow monster... Duramboros in particular has basically nothing when it comes to swift attacks (and they nerfed it's ''you must poison me to kill me in any reasonable amount of time'' HP). It also sounds as if she's more of a victim of circumstance than any personal failing; as I said, she may be generally slow, but has enough swift attacks and tricks to keep you on your toes. If she'd appeared in literally any other game besides Generations and maybe 4 Ultimate, she would likely have been FAR more difficult to deal with.

@meleebrawler Duramburos is not my favorite either-- he just felt challenging due to aerial style not being a thing.
So, really half of my complaint is about how aerial style totally wrecks Gammoth; in 4U she would be actually challenging.

Isn't there a trailer coming out tonight? Someone on the Wikia said Congalala and 2nd Gen's Jungle is back.

@CrazedCavalier You're forgetting about the overpowered Insect Glaive and less-balanced mounting system still present in 4U. Oh, and also getting toasted by fire element ultra bursts.

@meleebrawler Well, Najarala gets wrecked by IG (and by extension, dominated with Aerial style) but is a pain for every other weapon, so it wouldn't be a unique case.
And that too. Yeah, I think they overnerfed the CB in Gen (the altered GPs and maybe a slightly nerfed Ultra Burst would've worked-- instead we get an all-round motion value reduction and neutered UB on top of the GP alteration), but it completely wrecked certain things. 4U had some major power creep.

@CrazedCavalier Charge Blade is in a fine spot; it's still a popular weapon from what I can see, and that is because it still retains the other thing that made it so ridiculous in 4U: it's versatility.

In Generations, I kind of see as the big brother of Sword & Shield: not QUITE as versatile as the former with it's oils and arts, but trades only a bit of speed for much more power, without necessarily compromising it's elemental potential with those phials. It can cut and stun, dish out some fixed damage like a Gunlance, and it's adept style freaking lets you block AND dodge everything perfectly!
All the nerfs did was make it so that it no longer outdoes specialists like Hammer in their intended roles.

You also can't forget the buff of regular guarding also unleashing bursts. Nothing is funnier than a Redhelm exhausting itself punching you repeatedly. Striker is also an option for doing a lot of damage.
Finally, it seems as though the developers had XX in mind from the very beginning when redesigning the ultra burst (along with the Redhelm set in general, hint hint), since Brave mode appears to let you more or less spam them (with a little help from Load Up and Overlimit).

@meleebrawler Its versatility is what made it popular; not what made it powerful. What made it powerful was being able to do super and ultra bursts out of GPs.
And "much more power" than the SnS? The SnS does pretty much everything better than the CB. Its KO Oil makes it the number 1 KO weapon, it's got three solid hunter arts (one of which furthers the SnS as the new king of KO), and has very reliable DPS.
And so what if the CB has a perfect guard and perfect evade? The SnS one-ups it even in Adept by acting like a superior Aerial Style while also maintaining most of its advantages.
On top of that, you even said yourself that the UB requires Overlimit to be usable. It may finally have sort of niche in Brave Style, but everywhere else it's still almost never a good idea to use it.

I'm fine with the change to GP behavior and view guarding releasing normal bursts as a nice compromise (compared to GPs releasing a mini burst). I just believe that crippling the UB (heck, considering the official guidebook still has MVs that suggest a shockwave that seems like it may have been a relatively late change) and nerfing its motion values across the board went too far.

You know, why do I keep even bringing it up? It's always the same argument over and over.

Anyways... I saw two new armors in the trailer.
The first I have no idea what it may be, making it truly "new":

You can't really get a clear shot of it.

Secondly, and much more clearly, is the G rank female Gammoth set:

Looks much better than the original one.

@Tsurii Thought I may have seen it somewhere. Never saw it from the back, though, so couldn't match it up.

Anyways, the lowdown on SP Mode and Alchemy style:
You can select one Art that, when activated, triggers SP mode for you and hunters around you. The bonuses are as follows:
-Guild: Speedier item consumption
-Aerial: Decreased stamina consumption and increased stamina regeneration
-Striker: Arts fill up over time
-Adept: Larger window for perfect evades and guards
-Brave: Brave gauge increases quicker and is easier to mantain
-Alchemy: New, different levels

As for the Alchemy lowdown, I'll just let a certain games producer at Square Enix by the name of Adam Evanko take it from here:

It doesn't sound like total garbage, surprisingly.

@CrazedCavalier You keep repeating that because it means little to most people. As long as the damage discrepancy isn't TOO severe (like super-weak Gunlance shelling in FU... or vanilla 4 Charge Blade), a weapon doing a little less damage overall in the grand scheme of things isn't enough to dissuade most hunters from playing a weapon they like.

Though I kind of disagree with the notion that Exhaust Oil makes the SnS the best KO weapon; even with Shoryugeki, against monsters who don't keep their heads low to the ground, it has trouble doing so consistently due to it's poor reach (but the exhaust part still does work). In those situations, the higher burst KO damage of both hammers and CBs makes it easier to take advantage of the fewer opportunities of head-whacking. And while I don't doubt that SnS still beats CB for elemental damage overall, it can't match the latter's raw power.

@meleebrawler Guess so... considering I decided to max out the Tigrex CB and mess around some more with it in Generations. Considering I couldn't get the hang of GPs within 4U, it feels just fine to me. It's just the cold, hard numbers that nag at me. I've really just got to stop making it a big deal and enjoy the dang weapon again.

Anyways, I'm hoping they don't drastically alter Barioth's armor set-- the G-rank design is awesome and the evasion +2/constitution +2 combo works really well. But considering what happened to Agnaktor's set... .
I'm also wondering if "overkill skills" (dual skills, attack/defense up XL, evasion +3, and so on) from 4U will be back.

Seeing how Agnaktor's armor is now useless in Generations....yeah.
