Topic: Monster Hunter XX (Double Cross)

Might as well....here's a discussion thread for the new Monster Hunter game. Double Cross, obviously, is basically an expansion of the first Cross. (Generations) In other words this is Cross G...

Game has G-Rank, more returning areas (2nd Gen Desert I think), more returning monsters (Barioth, Barroth, and Diablos are back), a new Deviant (Diablos), and some freaky new flagship monster. A new area as well, of course, but...I didn't get a good look at it yet. lol

Kinda hype, and am hoping this comes out in the West sooner rather than later (due to most of the stuff being translated). However, I'm afraid that they'll burn out the more casual fans- I'd actually be for releasing it as $20 DLC for Generations.

Wonder what the difference between Brave and Adept styles are- Brave also looks quite counter-heavy.

I didn't even know there were two styles...thought there was a new weapon class for a moment. lol

For a moment I thought the Great Sword was an SA. Looks like a G rank Maccao GS coupled with G rank Molestio (yes that's what I call it) armor.

@Tsurii Maybe it'll be like Ash Kecha Wacha's set- that both looked cool and was a decent stopgap until you could get something better in the rank.

Really liking the new ruined area. Also, Great Thunderbugs return! Brave Style also looks nifty (according to Adam Evanko of Square Enix aka Gaijinhunter they're holding a stream right now that will show Brave Style off at the end of it). Wondering what the other style will be.
Jet Engine Dragon is so Frontier it hurts.
(If you're wondering why the image is called "Brave Style GS 1" but there's no "2", I was naming them as I was taking the screencaps and expected another clear shot. Same reason why there's nothing for Brave DB or Bowgun- no clear shots. They'd be better expressed as gifs.)

@Haru17 Really, between X/XX and Frontier Z it seems like they've mingled the teams. Frontier Z has Gore Magala and a new Deviant like system (different from Supremacy and HC monsters, which were still technically normal monsters), as well as a new style that bumped it's total up to four.

JED will probably grow on me, the same way Gog did.

I shall call the Deviant Diablos, Triablos, both because it has three horns if you look closely (the smaller one is basically his classic dual style shunted by the big horn) and because it seems to borrow elements from three monsters: Thunderlord's misshapen horn, Grimclaw's color and rock throwing, and Glavenus's tail slams.

Do wonder how ''fully upgraded'' weapons are gonna transition to XX, though. ''The (weapon name)'s final form... oh wait, no it's not''.

@Tsurii It drains your health while waiting for the counter (at least that's the word on the street). Outside of a few niche setups Adept will still probably be king.
Also a guy on the stream let it slip- the new style is called Organizer. I say "let it slip" because everybody acted like he wasn't supposed to say that. More details in the next Famitsu issue.

@meleebrawler Watch it be like FU where you build the G-rank versions of weapons from scratch rather than directly upgrading pre-existing weapons.

@Tsurii Watched the important parts of the stream and it's confusing. The GS user's health bar had the "burning/rapidly depleting" effect on it when he was using certain attacks, but that's about it. How the gauge is used and activated remains a mystery. It does look like you get gauge through attacking monsters, evading through their attacks, and may be able to manually charge it. GH needs to get on this.

What I do know: at full gauge, the first hit of the LS Spirit Combo has a guard point.

@CrazedCavalier When you say the new style, do you mean the sixth style they kept hidden?

@Tsurii Adept is like that for most weapons to keep it from being broken. To make the most of it, you are expected to know a given monster in and out, what moves you can and cannot punish. It can't just dodge everything and counter instantly (bar the ultrafast dual blades). Plus, the running gives the option to retreat instead of attack should you need to.

@meleebrawler Yep, the "hidden" sixth style is called Organizer and has to do with the tease at the end of the trailer (the hunter shaking a barrel).

I knew I should've skipped generations.

@Meowpheel ...But, G-Rank...and may have even more monster to hunt than Generations. (which had more than 4U)

I have enough monster hunters games I don't play.

Of course, I don't rule it out entirely... It just won't be a priority.

Well anyways I'll be once again hoping for Shen, Lunastra, Gigginox, and the missing monsters from 4U. (...I would add Amatsu to the list, but, well...you know....I need to go ahead and fight her already...lol)

@CrazedCavalier Yeah, it's definitely the best cover since Tri. It's like if Brachydios hadn't had a clashing color scheme and not even gotten the lead slot in the west.

@Haru17 I do like how near the Glavenus hunter's knees is a hunter off in the background with a barrel over his head. Pretty neat Organizer tease.

I'm excited for this, even though it might not even appear outside of Japan, and I'm already playing MH3U, MH4U and MHGen. It's great to see Barroth and Barioth back, hopefully there'll be lots of monsters and subspecies that wasn't in MHGen.
