@meleebrawler I only ever have to sharpen in multi-monster hunts. Baraq Sedition is the hyper Seregios SA, and unlike the normal version doesn't benefit from sharpness+ skills at all with a good chunk of white sharpness to boot. Plus, the autosharpen effect is registered at the start of a roll- considering I'm getting ten units of sharpness for every five rolls and two attacks per roll (auto attack when going up in sword mode + manual input), there's a net zero. You only really lose sharpness if you go ham on a downed monster, though missed aerial evades and aerial evades acting as evades + repositioning sidesteps mostly offset that.
Baraq Sedition (hyper SA that I'm using) on Kiranico: http://mhgen.kiranico.com/switchaxe/seditious-axe
Baran Defiance (the base version) on Kiranico: http://mhgen.kiranico.com/switchaxe/aksa-switch
Anyways, I just remember a lot of people saying how Alatreon is immune to flashbombs in 3U so I didn't even try anything this time. I have the Relic Axe (maxed form of the rarity 3 recolor branch of the default in-box SA), which has a Dragon Phial with 24 element. Since it's purely from the phial I don't have to worry about dragonblight. But it'll be hard giving up white sharpness and crazy affinity.

Ok, after finishing upgrading my Shagaru Glaive (my substitute until I can get Ala's, lol), I'm gonna give Amatsu another try. Same with Alatreon once I can upgrade my Snowbaron Gunlance, another substitute weapon, lol. (unless I get lucky beforehand and get Daora's GL...)

Yeah, well, don't forget that dragon blight is also making you lose your affinity bonuses. And be sure to use axe mode when not using a power phial.
I don't fully remember if the rules for flashing Alatreon were the same in 3U as in Generations (we had ballista and binders then after all), but I reiterate: flashing Alatreon is always possible so long as it isn't raging. Still doesn't stop randoms from blowing all their flashes on it when it's doing so -_-.
@Joeynator3000 I'm not so sure if using ice alone against Alatreon is such a good idea... it spends a comparatively greater amount of time in it's ice/thunder mode where it's resistant, if not completely immune to those elements. Maybe this is why they changed his armor's elemental resistance to purely weak to dragon and neutral to everything else instead of a small resistance to everything except water.

I'd actually say that even without power phial, sword mode still works better- especially in this case. The weapon has good raw and is only getting the dragon element in sword mode (dragon phial, not dragon element with elemental phials). Sword mode's just faster and more fluid than axe mode, even if it has a bit less raw damage without power phials. Plus, with aerial, using axe mode means only half as many mounts- the sword mode acts like the SnS/DB and has an attack as an automatic part of the jump.
Though I didn't notice that it got rid of my affinity buff.
EDIT: Got a room set up. Just doing Sakura charm farming on my own until/if others join. Put my electrogems laying around to use and built (and maxed out) the HR Astalos set, so I finally have something decent for thunder-using monsters.
@Joeynator3000 That won't make up for the rest of the time it spends flying, trust me. You can ground him in his ice mode to better exploit his weaknesses to fire and dragon, but you can't make him return to dragon (aside: check out the cool eyes when he does this) aside from failing a mount.
@CrazedCavalier I'm well aware of aerial Switch Sword's behaviour. One question, though... can you switch to an axe attack after the rising aerial?
Actually, I may have been wrong about that dragonblight statement... it reduced your affinity in Tri and just assumed it kept that in future games along with removing your element, but the wiki says otherwise.
@meleebrawler I think you can switch from axe to sword mode mid-air, but not vice versa.
In Tri, Dragonblight halved your affinity- neutral affinity would become -50, for instance.
And sorry, got called to do something else. Should be back in not too long.
EDIT: Got momterrupted, and when I got back the room was gone. Very sorry.
Akantor was being rather annoying to me. With my first attempt, I got carted for the 3rd and final time a few minutes before the 50 minute limit was up. Plus, my Palicos were fainted for much of the battle, so maybe I need to give them better armour.
Plus I was going for tail carves to get Akantor Tail parts. I managed to cut off it's tail and carve it twice, but both times it gave me the less common scales instead of the tails I wanted.
I want to solo him before doing multiplayer to get any remaining parts, so I'll likely give it another try another day.
Does anyone here use Demondrugs and Armorskins? I never think of using them, but it sounds like them and their mega versions are great to drink on really tricky quests.
Because you realized all the Khezus you'd have to fight just to get the Pale Extracts for Megas. And the blasted Guild banned the use of Frenzy Crystals to multiply them.
@CrazedCavalier sorry for not holding the room... but in the future, consider bringing a farcaster or running to a safe area in the case of unexpected events.
