@221Believer: Hello and welcome from a fellow hunter that just started too. I'm still working on the Caraven stuff myself(9) before I try the online stuff. I use the LS and I think it can trip other players up pretty easy so I think that's why I have been hesitant to try a hunt online.
@LasermasterA There's an event quest where you can hunt an Apex Deviljho. I haven't tried it out yet so I dunno if it still gives the Zenith Wyvern Gems L, but I assume it does considering it's not an Arena Quest.
In a group setting, go for the tail first. The LS is ideal for hitting them (due to long reach). Plus you'll still be damaging the monster, and lessening the chance of, erm... "collateral damage". =P
Afterwards, try going for any higher up parts, assuming the monster has them (Rath wings, for example).

Noob question: Does Gore Magala do dragon damage? The fact that that's the element on its weapons makes me wonder.
Nope, Gore Magala weapons have dragon element most likely because your weapons can't have the Frenzy Virus and dragon has the same colour as the Frenzy. Similar to how the Seregios weapons lets you sharpen your weapons with rolls since you can't inflict the bleeding status against monsters.

@OutCold — Sorry, I missed your post before somehow. xP It's nice to meet you as well! Good to know there are other newbies picking up this game, I feel a little less bedazzled by this talk of Apex and G-Rank. Long Sword looks like a pretty cool weapon to use, though you're right--it looks even worse than the glaive can be at knocking others around.
My poor Palicoes. They're so much more helpful than I expected them to be, and I'm rewarding them by slapping them with my glaive. I'm horrible.
What annoys most in this game and previous games is when a monster camps in the area that leads to another area, so you can't hit it without the getting the loading screen to another area.
Earlier, I had mounted a Tigrex, but while mounted it crosses the line to another area, meaning I warped to the next area while the monster remained in the previous area.
I've been playing MH4U, my first real jump into the series, casually with a friend for a few months now. We started about the same time but I decided to take a break from it for a while. Atm he's at G crown Silver and I'm at HR4 haha. ^_^;
I decided to finish the caravan(atm 7) before I try to jump back into the online since it seems I've gotten a bit rusty. Nice to meet you lot and I hope we can slay some monsters together in the future.
It's even better if you need to climb a tall wall to return to the area with the monster.
This was at least half of a Gore Magala hunt I had the other day. It looks super cool in that weird washed out area, but ugh, when it throws you off into area 9...
Not five minutes later it promptly fled to 9 to sleep anyway.

On a side note, I'm totally going to have CB as my next weapon of choice. Fun weapon to play with and after watching some videos of a sleep CB set up, looks like a totally exciting time smashing the crap out of some domes.
I've been playing this game off and on all day. Fought something called a Seregios. Then I fought it five more times to collect the materials I need for a new long sword. God, I'm tired.
....takes another look at the Fatalis glaive You know what, maybe I will remake Magala's glaive. I can hone the Fatalis one for Defense and Magala's for Attack. owo

My friend told me Emerald Congalala's armour is a good starter for High Rank. Is this true? Because I really hate fighting that stupid thing and don't want to waste too much time on doing so if it's not actually going to be worth it. I'd rather make the Bnahabra armour.
I'm sad Storge is going to be outclassed so quickly, but I'm still glad I made/have it. It's a nice set.
