I got two frills on my own. I'm still not sure if it was by total luck or if I ended up actually breaking it off. I used a combination of mounting and bombs with the hammer. Thanks guys!

Oh boy, I did it. Despite a disconnect in the middle of the fight, I managed to kill Ukanlos. Many thanks to @Morpheel for helping me through more than half of the fight!

I actually edited carapaceon, I used the Spanish name by accident (caparaceon). [wait is that even the correct Spanish name anyway? Maybe I just have been misspelling it all this time]
Ugh, hate it when I end up accidentally doing that attack where you draw your Gunlance and rush forward instead of immediately blocking. Blew up my own bombs that I just put down next to my trap. T.T
