I had my first instance where I had the upper hand and cornered a monster. Ok well he cornered himself. It was an A Rathalos and I got him in an area near a jump point where even when he got mad he couldn't jump back. He was stuck in that direction for about a good 45 seconds and I went to town on him. Only knocked him over once which was fine since he wasn't turning around. My next experience might not be so friendly lol

That is fantastic.
It wasn't quite so awesome, but it was still pretty funny, all things considered. I've definitely taken to using bombs more often. ESPECIALLY when the monster plays dead or is sleeping.
And I think I'm going to main the heavy bowgun now. I love sniping at monsters from afar.
@Ralizah Yeah, Heavy Bowguns are massive fun once you get a feeling for the awkward aiming. And focusing on certain ammo types (except for pellet, pellet shots are awful) makes them extremely powerful as well, not to speak of the obvious range advantages.
In my effort to garner some more weapons I made a Zinogre longsword, but when I tried to use it it felt awkward and clunky. I guess I lost the groove for the longsword because that was my main weapon in MHFU, and what I started with in MH3U before switching to the switchaxe. I was really good at using the longsword too.
...I guess I'll just have to stick with different elemental glaives and switchaxes. That's fine.

@TeeJay It's possible that the LS has gotten a bit too straightforward to you. It's one of the least technical weapon types, so the lack of input variety might feel wrong to you.
@Kaze_Memaryu Hmm, I guess that could be it. I kept pressing button inputs expecting to get another strike in but instead came do a dead stop. The switchaxe and insect glaive (with red and white monster extract) seem to flow a lot better in their attacks.

It's probably just that you're not used to how it works. Fade slashes (A+X) are very important. You can Fade back, left, or right. Having a dodge and attack combined, along with the ability to go straight into a spirit combo right afterwards gives you tons of mobility without having to ever stop attacking. Also, once you've gotten into red, doing the spirit combo finisher will lower your DPS since it stops you for like 3 seconds and the animation is not cancellable. I managed to beat "The Master's Test" today with the Teostra hammer. It probably wasn't the best weapon choice, and the monsters wouldn't let me use the Wystones effectively. I should have left my Palicos behind because they kept making the monsters run all over.
Also, Apex Deviljho is a jerk. He can blast you with his dragon breath from a ridiculously long distance and his stomp attacks have a larger range.
