I damage the Royal What ever it is called to the point it starts limping and tripping. I damage him even more. I throw three tranq. Bombs at it, it is not sleep. A couple of hits later, it dies. Anyone else extremely annoyed with the capturing process...?

Skip to 2:19 You mean like this? You have to set the trap first and then you can use the tranquilizer bombs (it always takes 2 bombs, IIRC).

Tried that. It went the other direction. XD

I'll try again though

Yeah, capping is kinda annoying when you're not used to it, but once you got the basics down, it's really useful.
Just keep at it. Patience is the key to all hunting!

Later on you can get skills that let you know exactly when a creature can be captured. It's still tough to get them trapped and throw the tranqs sometimes... but it's totally worth the effort because of the materials you get. Keep practicing, especially online with some buddies, and you'll be fine.

When it starts to limp, trap it then tranq it.

Should only take 2 tranqs.

And yes, if you get the Capture Guru skill (I think Peco armour has it) then when it's ready to be capped it will glow white on the map (assuming you've painted it).

If you're starting off on capturing, good to bring at least 2 traps, or if you can, bring the items to craft them. It's hard learning the balance early on but a good rule of thumb is once they limp hands off.

I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

You gotta wait till the right moment to lay down the trap. Like, when Luds is tossing out multiple water blobs....place the trap right next to him (like, close as possible, lol)

Don't worry too much about getting killed. As long as you get good materials, the mission is a full success. And if you need money, just sell some monster parts you can easily get again (Arzuros doesn't even have anything particularly rare, for example).

I love capturing stronger monsters, it often saves me from fainting for being distracted near the end of the hunt(it happens, a lot)
