The channel isn't actually one that you can install onto the 3DS home menu. You can only access it in the game itself - it's the bottom option on the main menu when you start up the game.

Well I kinda thought that until on the Nintendo Life community post (http://3ds.nintendolife.com/news/2011/12/join_the_official_nintendo_life_mario_kart_7_communities) on the homepage that said: Load up Mario Kart 7 Install the Mario Kart Channel — this is your best way to keep up to date with MK goings-on
you have to open the channel first and then let it save info to your SD card first before you can use it or get anything out of it iirc. during that process it'll ask to enable streetpass/spotpass stuff.

I did that. But I don't have an actual program on my 3DS? Or when they said install they meant the SD card data.
