i seriously doubt the 3ds could handle it. now wii u is a completely different story. they're doing it on xbox, so it'll be do-able on wii u, as long as mojang hasn't sold out to microsoft, that is :/
Then why is Minecraft on smaller less powerful devices?
I call shenanigans if 3DS doesn't get a copy of Minecraft...EVERYTHING ELSE IS!! Hell, even the DS has a hacked version...
I mean, it wouldn't be impossible. Camera rotation is fixed by the Circle Pad Pro. The touch screen could take place of the little box on the bottom of the screen with all of your items. You could use the ABXY buttons to set stuff or hit stuff. The Circle Pad could be used to move (no, duh). The D-pad could be used to cycle through your items. L and R could be like, quick menu stuff.
As for memory, it wouldn't have to be an unlimited world like in the original version. They could build the world from scratch and have a set world for you to experience. Creepers would still be there along with Zombies and Skeletons. I could see this as a pretty great 3DS game.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
I wouldn't be surprised if someone got at least the creative mode of Minecraft working on the 3DS, whether or not they be Mojang.

what on iphone ? ??? an hacked DS version ?? ? THEN BRING IT ON THE 3DS. not hacked please, a retail or eshop version. i will NEVER hack my 3DS. Genuine is the best.
Actually, It would be a great idea. I'd say drag the screen to look around(not thinking of kid icarus style), circle pad to move. I could keep on talking... but I doubt this would ever happen.. But unfortunately, I don't find minecraft fun....
Not extremely into nintendo at the moment, but not really into anything else either. :|
Visually the game can be done the the 3DS, but technically? No way, there's too much going on for the 3DS's processor and RAM to handle.
Maybe an extremely scaled down version, but I've seen beasts of computers putter out because there's too much going on in the game, specifically when you use TNT.
Would be cool though.
My laptop lags even when I'm not using TNT, but the 3DS doesn't need to be as powerful because it's not running the anti-virus, the minimized programs, and all the other background things. I heard someone used homebrew to bring classic Minecraft to the old DS. I don't think the 3DS should struggle in terms of technical power. The only problem I can for see is the updates. Lot's of them are just glitch fixes but occasionally there's a huge one, (One added NPC Villages, pre-built mines, strongholds, ravines and a whole lot of other things.) which would be hard to do on a cartridge game, and it's size might exceed that of the eShop limit.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.
