Do you think the possibility of Skype coming to the 3DS took a hit with Microsoft buying the company? Someone convince me it could still happen.

If Microsoft is willing to bring their properties (Age of Empires, MechAssault, Viva Piñata) to Nintendo's handheld, then I'm sure they'd allow Skype on 3DS.

Skype Ltd. originally wanted to bring their service to even the DSi.

So, if the DSi was capable according to them, then it's more than capable on 3DS. Another factor is Nintendo bringing video chat at some point which Iwata brought up recently.

yea! that's the positivity I was looking for. I'd like to think Microsoft wouldn't feel threatened by the handheld market, b/c I really want Skype on the 3DS, and I think Skype wanted that too, but I'm afraid the biggest hurdle now is that Skype under Microsoft probably won't be pursuing Nintendo and expressing that interest, and Nintendo will probably just do their own chat thing.

Yeah, Nintendo probably planned to do their own chat program.. now that they'll have to deal with Microsoft for Skype, I'd think Nintendo definitely plans to stick with their own chat program.

I never thought that Skype would make it to the Nintendo 3DS seeing as Satoru Iwata already discussed bringing their (Nintendo developed) video chat to the 3DS after it's worldwide launch. Furthermore, my hopes for Skype on the 3DS were dashed even more once I saw that Sony was saying that Skype wouldn't be on the NGP and kept talking about 'Near' as a way of staying in touch with friends. Then I read somewhere else that PicoChat will be revamped next year to be more like an IM program ala Yahoo Messenger.

However, I'd like to take this Microsoft/ Skype deal is a sign that a handheld XBOX platform is on the way just as rumors had been promising although the ZuneX rumor has more than failed us each year.

Well, hopefully Ninty can make it's own awesome video chat service.
@Pandalicious The PSP had Skype, so 3DS could of done it easy. Can't wait to see what happens to that

I don't think Microsoft needed skype. Windows Live worked good as it was. It seems kinda redundant.

If it comes to the 360, I hope it lets you use the Kinect sensor as a video camera. If not, I will continue to mock my Kinect every night as I have been for the the past 5 months.

ROFL! Man, that is so very funny!

I'm gonna continue to walk right past the XBOX 360 at every store. I don't want it that badly. I'm going to buy this Project Cafe Nintendo is cooking up. Anyway, currently I'm just waiting for the PS3 to get a price drop because I want to buy PlayStation Move Heroes!

Nintendo probably views something like Skype as a pedophile-enabling service. Nintendo's idea of "video" chat will be a Mii and a selection of hard-coded messages like "Hi!", "How are you?", "I'm fine, thanks.", and "Bye!".

Put your analyst on danger money, baby.

They will probably wait until they can add voice recognition software and give it a 1 second delay to the stream so the can block "inappropriate" words.

Well, they do have Pokemon Black and White with video chat. But I have to agree with Rob about Microsoft owning Skype being 'pointless'. Microsoft's Messenger work's fine for video chat, so I'm not sure why they would need Skype. Maybe to keep it from threatening their own Messenger service as Skype is essentially more prominent and "the rage" these days much more than Messenger.

We'll see where this goes.

So why is this in the 3DS forum when it has nothing at all to do with it?
This just in, Pringles announced a new flavour, cheeseburger! (This totally has to do with the 3DS, right?)
