This might sound weird, but how about telling our hunters' story? I mean a made-up backstory that can be as basic or over-the-top as you want. It's not quite roleplaying (since that's pretty difficult in MH4U), but more like personal flavour.
Just to note: please DO NOT organize actual hunts here, since that can create quite the barrage of posts. There's a topic for that, so please use it accordingly.
But without further ado, here's my hunter:
Name: Suvvya
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Personality: Easygoing, yet stubborn and careless
Main Weapons: Gunlance, Switch Axe, Heavy Bowgun, Bow
Backstory (yes I made one for her): Suvvya is a hunter at heart. Seeking challenge, she traveled through the Moga region, slayed countless ferocious beasts, and through an incident that almost cost her life, became a Knight of Agnaktor. But when she defeated the fearsome Alatreon, her "lord" disappeared, and with it, her Agnaktor armor.
Searching for the Infernal Agnaktor (a subspecies not seen so far), she travels to Val Habar in hopes of finding clues, joining the Capital-C Caravan for better access to information. But as the caravan travels, they discover the Frenzy. Determined to fend off this virus, Suvvya soon discovers the Gore Magala, only to earn a bitter defeat against it. Just before it can finish her off, a shadow appears in the sky and chases the Gore Magala away. Through this incident, she enters a stage of advanced infection, leaving her with violently pulsating purple marks in her face. And just a few days later, the Frenzy starts spreading to other monsters. Because of the advanced infection, Suvvya can sense frenzied creatures, but at the same time, being near them causes intense headache.
As the Frenzy spreads, Suvvya eventually discovers the Gore Magala's rebirth as Shagaru Magala, and manages to slay it while barely surviving herself. However, her infection remains, and slowly eats away at her strength. Ready to give up her search for her former lord, Suvvya starts searching for a cure, which an informant reveals to be the blood of an elder dragon, though it is unknown which elder dragon it could be, only that it is the polar opposite of the Magala. Searching for the identity of this elder dragon, Suvvya continues her fight, bitterly ignoring the virus that impedes her progress at all times.
So, that's it from my end. Of course, it's entirely up to you how far you take this, and nobody is expected to go nuts like I do. I just like to overdo it, that's all.
Also, feel free to add drawings or pictures, if you want. I would, but I suck too much at drawing to show anything.
@Kaze_Memaryu I love this cause it shows your dedication to a character it's awesome! If i had the game or actually cared for the Monster Hunter franchise i would do the same thing, with my character.Props friendo.
The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.
@MorphMarron@Sanya@Amiibo Still interested. If you like, you can just limit yourself to listing name, gender, and preferred weapon type(s).
@Hy8ogen Thanks for the compliment! Admittedly, I do write the story more extensively at home, but I'm concerned about the overall quality (since this here is a very quick summary - I actually wrote a good amount so far), and I still need to study some intricacies on literature to avoid falling on Fanfiction levels (I mean the site, not the general community).
@midnafanboy Haha, thanks! Too bad Monster Hunter isn't your thing, but maybe a different game with character creation has you hooked?
Hunter: Abgar Gender: Male Weapon: Hunting Horns mostly. Preferred battle style: Put a trap and hit the monster while you can. About him: Having started his hunting career as the back up man of an experienced group of hunters in Pokke, he prefers to stay in the sidelines to support the group by playing music whenever possible- but that often ends up catching the attention of whatever terrible monster they're hunting, which means he's usually seen pounding the monsters right in the face and occasionally hitting his fellow hunters by mistake.
The legend says he once worked for the legendary hunter Cha-Cha in Moga.

Hunter: Pokefraker Gender: Male Weapon: Greatsword Preferred Battle Style: Lots of charge attacks, along with launching my teammates to help them earn rodeo time About Him: After his family was burnt to a crisp by a mighty Rathalos, he spent many years hunting the beast until he finally saw the creature slew; after such he crafted both a powerful sword embedded with the power of fire, and an armor from the monster.
Now he travels the land helping others seek their revenge.
Hunter: Arctos Gender: Male Weapon: Switchaxe, with Hammer and Greatsword as backups. Preferred Battle Style: Get up close and do as much damage as possible using the Switchaxe's Sword Mode, while mounting if possible. About Him: Taking an interest in all kinds of creatures from a young age, he spent much of his teenage years studying Arzuros in their natural habitat. As a result of his knowledge of the creature, many people in neighbouring villages would often turn to him for help when wild Arzuros started to cause problems, often needing him to help to capture and release them into suitable areas. Using this experience, he decided to help many others by becoming a Monster Hunter.
(My characters just an avatar of myself, so the story was just ad-libbed, but I kinda like it!)
Hunter: Tristen Gender: Male Weapons: Insect Glave and Switch Axe Preferred Battle Style: Likes to dive right into the action, often haphazardly. Finds great joy in riding monsters and does so whenever possible. About Him: His father was a reknown hunter. One day he followed him out on a hunt without him knowing and witnessed a thrilling battle between him and a Rathalos. From that day on he wanted nothing more than to be as proficient at hunting as his dad, and this motivated him to put his boundless energy into taking monsters down. He can be a bit quick to jump into the fray however and this is often to his detriment if he tries to bit off more than he can chew.
Hunter: JaxonH
Gender: Male
Weapons: Insect Glaive, Long Sword, Hunting Horn, Great Sword..... in that order
Preferred Battle Style: Always cut the tail, break the horns, and mount whenever possible. Evasion is my forte. I learned to get in the thick of it, and anything can be dodged if you're good enough. Now, at the present I don't have a good evasion armor set but I'm working on the Nargacuga for Evasion and Evade Distance. Yes, the defense is only 24 and there's no high or G rank version, BUT, the skills are what count. Until I get to G and can make a good mixed set for those skills, I'll have to make due with upgrading because I WANT THOSE SKILLS.
About Him: Well, no one knows really. Ask him and he'll tell you something different every time, depending on the mood he's in. Whether a hunter out to make a name for himself, a man haunted by his past when a Gore Magala brutally ravaged his village and killed his family, or just a hunter by occupation, we may never know. But what we DO know is that JaxonH is one of the most revered monster hunters of his day, and not one to be trifled with, as the Ace Commander well knows.
All have sinned and fall short of Gods glory. Wages of sin is death. Romans
God so loved the world He sent His only Son- whoever believes on Him has eternal life. Unless you believe, you will die in your sins. Whoever believes, rivers of living water flow within them. John
Hunter: EOTW Gender: Male Weapons: Lance, Charge Blade, Switch Axe Preferred Battle Style: Stands his ground and never falters, waiting for the perfect moment to strike, then unleashing hell. About Him: Hunters start their careers for various reasons. Some do it to protect the people of the world; many do it for the glory. Then there is EOTW. He hunts for the sake of hunting, always seeking greater challenges. He lives for the close calls and tight spots, those are the best hunts to him. The ones that test him to his absolute limits. Nothing bores him more than an easy hunt, and nothing infuriates him more than losing. Ever since his humble beginnings on Moga Island he has sought to better himself. He strives not to be the greatest hunter in the world, but to be the best hunter he can be.
Name: Hajyak Age: 4 Gender: Manly Man Preferred Weapons: Switch Axe, Bug Lance (Actually, he prefers fisticuffs, but sadly that wasn't an option) His Legend: Born on Elvis Island, "Pompadour Man" Hajyak took to the high sees at the tender age of 4, wrestling the pounding waves, as well as the local wildlife, until eventually he said to himself, "surely there's something more to life than this? I've accomplished my dreams, but now what's the next chapter?" And so he made his way for the world's biggest beach to become a hunter.
On just the first day on the job, he already managed to take out a monsterous sandworm-like behemoth singlehandedly, using only a pop-gun and a rusty spoon tied to a grappling hook. He even managed to get back the Caravaneer's hat, who said to him, "I owe my life to this hat, and thus I owe my life to you." And so he joined the caravan as their lead hunter, thus beginning his journey full of slaying giant Jaggies, and picking golden mushrooms amongst trecherous aptonoths (have you ever been trampled by one of those? It's not fun). He mastered the Switch Axe, a man's weapon by any definition, in only days, but he also liked to use the Bug Lance, since it was one of the hardest weapons in the game to master, but obviously our man Hajyak was up for the challenge! That's why he's sometimes referred to as "The Bug Master", although he greatly prefers to be called "Pompadour Axe", or even "The Big Lance" (though only the ladies can call him that).
How does his tale end?...I don't know, I haven't beaten the game yet. We'll have to play more and find out.
