There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
I think it's pretty much given that there will be a Metroid game on the 3DS sooner or later. Of course it would be great if they had something to show in the conference. But i wouldn't want a rushed product.
But if they show anything Metroid i hope it will be either a classical 2D game like Donkey Kong Country Returns (The 3D effects would most likely blow me away.) or a game that controls like the announced Spirit Hunters ( http://dsiware.nintendolife.com/news/2010/09/spirit_hunters_i... ).
I would find it odd that Nintendo would announce a Metroid game. They already stated how they made the mistake of front loading their best IPs when the Wii launch and cause a lull period where no games were launch because they launched too many at once.
....Course then again, if they are trying to make it a multiplayer focused game like Hunters, then it would probably be their IP to show off their new online system try and gain back the trust of people like me who have little faith in Nintendo's online structure for any of their systems.
Course I think Animal Crossing could do a better job at that if they would just give the game the potential it needs instead of rehashing it every time....
I'd say the most likely guess would be that they're revealing Metroid II for the 3DS Virtual Console. But I've got my fingers crossed for an amazing, all new pixel-art 2D Metroid

Sorry to be a downer, but Jonathan Ross confirmed he wasn't talking about Metroid. Someone sent him this, to which he replied this. I'd love a 3DS Metroid, but that doesn't seem to be the case right now. His tweet does, however, seem to confirm 'surprises', which is exciting in itself!
@Kid A I'm sure it will happen, but still...that would be awesome and I can barely contain my excitement. Even with my expectations in check due to the history of the Wii VC, I have to say THIS is feature I'm most excited about with the 3DS.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a new metroid game either. It's nice to see Ninty has at least one franchise they're still willing to experiment with, even if it doesn't always turn out perfectly.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
This rumor was taken in the completely wrong direction. I don't even see a hint that it was going to be a launch game to begin with, considering Japan's also not getting it at launch

Hey guys, guess what – I heard there's going to be a Mario game too. You heard it here first!
Psh, I have exclusive information that there will be a Pokémon game on the 3DS that'll come in two seperate versions.
It'll involve a young trainer's journey to become champion while countering a criminal syndicate bent on manipulating legendary Pokémon.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if the inevitable 3rd version of the 5th gem games are 3DS exclusive instead. Mainly because Black/White look like they were made for 3DS anyway.
