Topic: Mega Gengar Gamestop Distribution Question

I just got back from Gamestop (yeah, I know most people hate them, but I had no choice) to get the Mega Gengar. This Distribution was different from the norm, it was with a code rather over local wireless. I normally get the free Pokemon while sitting in the parking lot. But this time I had to go in. I asked about it and the guy had the cards (containing the code) behind the shelf. He then told me than I couldn't have one unless I pre-ordered the new Pokemon game.

So I paid the man. I was going to buy the game anyway (on Amazon with free release date shipping) so my Gengar was still technically "free." But still, The whole experience kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

Is this how it's going to be from now on?

I doubt they had to preorder anything for it. But I have no idea.

I didn't have to pre-order it. I just went it, asked the girl that was working there, and she gave to me.

I just asked for a stack of them, and he gave me about 50 or so cards.

And no I didn't preorder, who even uses gamestop anyhow?

Should have got the code and then said you would like to cancel your preorder. They're meant to be giving them away, not forcing you to buy something to get it.

I got 4 without preordering a thing, 2 from EB 2 from JB hifi.

SO THE GUY WAS HOLDING THE GENGARS HOSTAGE? I'm gonna cancel my pre-order out of spite. Like I said I had no choice, I hate Gamestop as much as everyone else does.

I don't understand why they changed the way the distributions work, or why them make them Gamestop exclusive in the first place.

my local gamestop ran out and they said to call nintendo and tell them and they would give me one over the phone. so u can always do that.

They should have a poster somewhere in the store about it, and it's printed on it "no purchase necessary". You just dealt with an A-hole apparently.

Okay, maybe not "EVERYONE" but seriously this cant be the first time you've heard some one hate on Gamestop.

Why does that matter to me? If someone told me they hated Target, should I just automatically agree with them?

@WaLzgi I never said you had to agree with me. I was just posting my humble opinion on the internet. I should have known better. My bad.

Because of some deal with Gamestop probably, like every other games company. I wonder if GS is the only place these days willing to do this kind of thing anymore. The idea is to get you into the store, not only for business but for the community aspect as well, but that idea doesn't work nearly as well as it does in Japan.

My GameStops have never given me this kind of crap and I wouldn't put up with it. You should've outright threatened to contact management to complain about him, it says clearly that no purchase is necessary, so he's violating the rules. GameStop Corporation is not requiring preorders, he's just trying to get more preorders because that gets them commission, but he could be fired for forcing purchases for something that is supposed to be free. This doesn't have anything to do with the entire corporation, just certain employees.
