Looks very similar to Power Tennis, but these are just first impressions. The game will change over time as new elements are revealed before it's release next year! What do you think?

Can't wait. Sucks it isn't a "Tour" game.. You know, with RPG elements. Would been cool to use my Mii for that...

I don't see a million power-ups and abilities coming into play every other second, so I think it's safe to say it won't be much like the Gamecube one. I like all Mario Tennises, but I think it's best when designed with a little restraint.
Come on, friends,
To the bear arcades again.

Online online online online online online online online online online online online online online.
And I really hope it has an RPG tour mode like in Power Tour, but I don't think it's likely or they'd probably have shown it.
I made Kid Tripp! PocketGamer gave it a 9 out of 10! You should totally buy it now!

I only have Power Tennis on Wii and the special moves are cool. I find that the GBA version was a bit better and more balanced. I'm curious about Mario Golf and if that is even going to be made. Maybe for WiiU.
Mario Golf Advance Tour was an amazing game and would be great for 3DS.
But people probably want a new Golden Sun.

Agreed. That's what I liked about Mario Tennis GBC (haven't played N64 yet, still need to get it on VC). Powerups are alright, but no powerups is even better.
@komicturtle: No RPG mode? Crud. Hopefully they'll eventually release a 3DS Mario Golf game that has an RPG mode.

I hope there are still some power-ups but maybe they shouldn't be as frequent as in power tennis.

Well, don't base facts on what I say lol
I have no clue if this game has an RPG mode. Hopefully it does and it's just that they are not showing it. They kinda did the same thing for Mario Tennis Power Tour where they didn't show the RPG mode but rather gameplay of Nintendo's mascots playing each other. Camelot can't pass up on a great RPG mode here. I hope not.

As long as Camelot is developing it, I'm fine with whatever comes out. I mean, they've gotta be developing it. Golden Sun DS couldn't have been their sole focus for over two years, and only now are they working on other stuff. That just doesn't seem plausible.

I'll start getting excited when it starts looking like a new game and not Power Tennis. Really looking forward to this! I love Mario Tennis games (even if I prefer Mario Golf).

I would have thought if it was like Power Tennis they would have at least shown some of the special abilities in the trailer. From the trailer it looks more like how Mario Tennis on the N64 or GBC played..........
I hope there's an RPG mode

Well, other than the lack of special moves (which could be in there), I don't think it looks any different from Power Tennis. The 3D models, the music, the assets including the sprites for the crowd, etc. - obviously that's because the games is very early in development, but that's my point. I'll be more interested when this game starts showing why it is a new game.

Looks nice, but I don't think that I'll get this, as there'll be a plenty of sports in Mario & Sonic,
It's a conspiracy, I tell you.http://backloggery.com/Matillion3DS FC - 1719 3275 2374

@Rm88 Well yeah, but that's only because Power Tennis minus the special moves is Mario Tennis on the N64 or GBC. The fact that some of the visuals are closer to the GC Mario Tennis doesn't really mean anything because you'd expect a 3DS game to look more like a GC game than a N64 or GBC game......
In other words if it's Power Tennis minus the specials it's the same as Mario Tennis on the N64. If it's Power Tennis without the specials but with a full on RPG mode then it's like GBC version. If it's Power Tennis with an RPG mode then it's like the GBA version.

But I am talking about visuals (and audio). It's way too similar to Power Tennis because it's recycling a lot of stuff. I'm not bashing, it's perfectly normal since the game has just been announced. For example, the first Brawl footage we saw had the characters using their Melee movesets (like Kirby's side-B).

@Rm88 If you think this is more like Power Tennis than Mario Tennis 64 (for example) I'm really curious about what the trailer would have to look like for it to look more like Mario Tennis 64 than Power Tennis. Low res textures and models?
When I talk about it reminding me of the style of Mario Tennis on the GBC and N64 I'm not talking about the visuals. I'm talking about the way Mario Tennis was before the special moves. When it was simply a good Tennis game with Mario characters.....

I can't believe I can't get my point across
This trailer directly recycles assets from Power Tennis. I'm not talking about poly-count or quality textures, but art direction. In the same way you can tell apart Mario Kart Wii from Mario Kart 7, or Super Mario Galaxy from Super Mario 3D Land, I expect this game to have its own look and sound.

Wow! look at the graphics! (oh, and no, I'm not one of these people who only care about graphics, it just looks nice!) I bet this is going to be a great game!

You're not the only one
If I understand what you're saying here correctly you're agreeing with what I've been saying all along. Yes, the assets are recycled but art direction and recycled assets do not make the game. Mario Kart 7 more or less looks like Mario Kart Wii visually but it's very clear from the trailers that it's NOT the same game. Super Mario 3D Land looks a lot like Super Mario Galaxy visually but in terms of gameplay it seems almost more like SMB 3 than Galaxy somehow. You could remake Link's Awakening on the Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks engine but the end product wouldn't be "more" like the DS Zelda's than the original.
In the same way this Mario Tennis is CLEARLY borrowing assets and models from Power Tennis but it doesn't look like it plays anything like that game. If anything gameplay wise it's more like, as I have repeatedly said, Mario Tennis on the N64 or GBC. This game looks like the N64/GBC era Mario Tennis in a shiny new Power Tennis style skin more than a new Power Tennis.
