A new Mario Party has rather randomly been announced today; Mario Party: Star Rush. It's the second 3DS Mario Party game after Island Tour and is touted as having changes that will make it "much more fast-paced and portable friendly", such as players not having to wait for their turn because everyone moves at the same time. The game will be officially revealed in Nintendo Treehouse's stream tomorrow.

Why are they are bringing the cart again? Didn't they notice all the negative feedback and bad sales from MP10 and 9?

I'm not what to post, but something should pop up here eventually.

@Totallynot Actually, they said all the players are moving at once, not together, so there is a slight chance that the car might not be back this time.

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

All I want is another classic Mario Party.

This sounds more like that thing in Smash for WiiU. But it could still be like the old Mario parties, just more dynamic.

Smash Tour is what I immediately thought of as well. I wouldn't mind it being like Smash Tour actually; first everyone roles at the same time/uses items, then moves, then events/minigames happen, and repeat. I think it's a simple, fast pattern that would still be chaotic and fun. This concept would also get rid of the car mechanic, which most people, including me, would be glad to never see again. We'll just have to wait until tomorrow!

I'm actually getting kind of excited about this... I mean, I still play Mario Party 3 all the time, so I'm always up for a new, good Mario Party game.

From what little we know, it sounds like it has potential. Like, the everyone takes there turn at the same time sounds like it could be cool. Imagine if, first, every player selected an item, but you didn't know what item, if any, the other players used. Then you have to strategize by trying to figure out what the other players have planned. Then, after items have been used and take their effects, everyone rolls and travels across the board, perhaps triggering some sort of event when two players encounter each other. It would be really cool in that you need to pay attention to what you're doing, as well as try to figure out what the other players are doing, at the same time.

The name Star Rush also gives me some semblance of hope they are returning to the classic coins and stars system, or at least something similar.

That said, I'll try to keep my expectations low. Obviously Mario Party hasn't had a great track record as of late, but I still think there's hope for the series.

I'd forgive the mediocre gameplay if it at least had online functionality (every MP game post-8). But it won't. And it has the look of a game just used to pad out the winter release schedule. But oh well. It's not a game well suited to online play anyway. It's a shame.

I didn't watch them play it during Tree House, just the trailer. It looked like it has potential. Coins, stars, items (I assume recruits count as items?), and strategy elements. (Aka the ability to make decisions instead of rolling and watching what happens.) Were there mini games besides boss battles though? I guess I'll have to watch the Tree House when I get home from work.

You can play as the recruited characters, each has their own dice with different faces (for example, Luigi's dice has 1, 1, 1, 5, 6,7).

They also participate in boss battles as AI allies.

The guys at the tree house got into normal mini games by landing in a coin balloon space.

I've only watched the trailer, but it looks very promising to me. The Toad mode looks nice, and the recruiting characters idea sounds neat. I'll be like "Out of the way! I call Luigi!" XD

Having a new mode gives me hope that this won't be a quick, cheap addition to the Mario Party series (like Island Tour IMO). So far so good! Also sign of the car mechanic as of now!

Just watched the E3 gameplay and I'm very impressed with what I saw! It looks really fun to me! I really like the "always doing something" concept, and the minigames look creative and not completely luck based. I also like how the recruited characters can help in the minigames. I'm hoping there will be more modes, maybe one where you don't have to start out as Toad, but if not, the game still looks promising to me.

Eh, I'm skeptical about this. It wIll probably be a game I buy when it gets cheaper. And still no online.

Highlights of that art include:

  • Luigi plotting to murder Peach with a Green Shell to the back of the head, only to get caught on camera.
  • Yoshi enviously eyeing Blue Toad's dice block
  • Diddy Kong playable?
  • HD Petey Piranha

I can't wait to play this game. My sons, my daughter and I have a blast playing Mario Party 10 together. They are releasing a Mario Party amiibo version of Diddy Kong so I'm sure Diddy will be playable
