I love both of them the same. Awsome characters, (Waluigi, Metal Mario etc.) Weird characters, (the babies, Honey Queen) great courses, (Grumble Volcano, Music Park) frustrating item control (Thunder Clouds/POW Blocks, none really for MK7, but you lose 3 coins when you get hit by EVERYTHING) good online, and great features that make it memorable. (Bikes, Tricks, 12 Racers, and Motion Control, Gliders, Underwater, First-Person Perspective, and Kart Customization) Sure I've played MK7 more than MKWii since I got, but that's just because it's new and I still have to unlock everything. My favorite though is still Double Dash because of it's two people in one kart hook that's great for co-op and the fact that their tons of combinations of characters, and the fact that every pair has their own special item. (with the exception of Petey Piranha and King Boo) Add in that this is the game that got me obsessed with videogames and that what makes this game better than MKWii and MK7.

Mario Kart 7 doesn't have the lightning cloud, but Mario Kart Wii does. Because of that, Mario Kart 7 wins hands down.

getting hit by fireballs and super leaves is really your own problem for not paying attention It might seem like you're getting hit by blue shells and thunderbolts frequently, but if you actually count the number of those items in one race you'll find that even on the longest tracks there is usually one or no thunderbolts at all. Similarly, I rarely see more than 2 blue shells in a race even on 150cc.

I don't know where you got everything feeling like a slight variation on the standard kart. True, the most boost any kart gives to any stat is 0.5, but you would be surprised at how much of a difference an extra 0.5 speed or acceleration can make.

i've seen 3 blue shells plenty of times, several times just last night even. maybe you're just not in 1st place enough to notice them, ha? not that i'm boasting. just one shell per match would be fine, but if that's all that hits you then it was a lucky match in my experience.

i got hit by a blue shell on mapletree way last night, just before the glider ramp at the start, so i fell down and had to get fished up by lakuti. when he dropped me, someone left a bomb cooking on the ramp, so i blew up as soon as my kart touched down and fell off the same ramp a second time. that sort of thing happens all the time, you're holding 1st by a good margin and then the game just nails you with 5 items in a row until you're in last with no chance of winning.

lightning bolts average at least twice per match for me. they wouldn't be annoying if it weren't for the fact that they happen at the worst possible times; jumping across a crevice to take a shortcut? lightning bolt. gliding across a huge chasm? lightning bolt. rounding a really sharp curve on the edge of a cliff? lightning bolt. in 8th place due to all the stupid items and you finally just got a good item that will help you reclaim 1st? lightning bolt. your item is gone, and there is no god.

fireballs aren't as annoying but it is kind of ridiculous for someone with a fast trigger finger to fire off 20 of them from right behind you. you can only hold at most 3 bananas if you're lucky and there's limited room to dodge with all the obstacles and turns, so it's not entirely your fault if you get hit. i actually like the tankooki tail.

i do see big speed differences using different parts, but the handling isn't much different. that's why i say they're all slight variations on standard, because none of them offer turning that feels much different. i suppose you could choose birthday girl and put rollers on it and get good turning, but then you'd have crap speed and a girly paint job....

When MK7 isn't making me snore it's making me want to toss my 3DS out a window.

MKWii doesn't have the snore part.

Let me assure you, I may not be the best at Mario Kart, but against CPUs I'm in 1st 90% (or more) of the time. Also, if you bothered to read my insanely long post a few pages back, you would see that I counted all blue shells, including those that were launched when I wasn't in 1st. Have you actually bothered to count the number of blue shells/thunderbolts in one race? Because I did for 32 races, and while sometimes I do get hit by a lot of items, in the long run I seriously didn't get hit by too many items on average. I invite you (and anyone else who feels that there are too many items) to repeat my experiment and scientifically demonstrate how good (or bad) the item balance is. Either your luck really sucks or you're exaggerating a little much. Take your Maple Treeway race. Let me ask you this: how many times has the situation you described happened to you, and how many times that sort of thing happened were you able to recover and still do well (maybe because it was early in the race). Again, I invite you to play a few races on your favorite cup and actually count the number of times that happens, and when it happens how many times it actually caused you to lose a race that you would have otherwise won.

A few suggestions: first, I know what it feels like when a blue shell hits you right before the finish, knocks you off the track, and you finish in 8th. That has happened to me a few times before too, but those few times are out of the 1500+ races I've played so far. Second, about lightning bolts. It's a good idea to get into the habit of taking a quick look at the bottom screen every few seconds. Just a quick glance is fine. When I notice someone has a lightning bolt, I take extra care to drift around corners tightly. There's really no excuse for getting zapped off a corner by a thunderbolt...as for getting hit over bottomless pits, again when I'm about to go over a bottomless pit and someone has lightning, I wait there, let the people who pass me take the hit, and get back into 1st like nothing happened.

I still stand by my opinion that getting hit by fireballs, super leaves and the like (really, anything except red and blue shells and thunderbolts) is 100% your own fault unless it was right after another unavoidable item (red/blue shell, thunderbolt) in which case I'd say it's 80% your fault, 20% bad luck. Even in the tightest places I have techniques for dodging every single item except the ones above, and if I happen to have the correct items I will also almost always dodge red and blue shells. Even if a red/blue shell is coming and I can't avoid it, I can still minimize its impact on me if I use the correct strategy.

If the 3DS has not been discontinued SM3DL and MK7 are awesome games, but if the 3DS has been discontinued Sony has taken over the world. It is not true that both Sony has taken over the world and SM3DL and MK7 are not awesome games. Therefore:Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are...

Mk Wii: more vehicles and bikes, more characters and you play it in the big screen instead of that nano one of the 3DS.

those pile-ups happen often, at least several times each gameplay session. assuming i get hit by nothing else the rest of the race, i could always recover and get 1st or a near spot, but finishing the remainder of a match without any more objects hitting you is a joke. even those times when i do reclaim 1st, the next blue shell is already there waiting for me. and yes, i did see your spreadsheet, but i don't think i need to log each instance of a blue shell hitting me to know that the game is pissing me off.

seriously, i love the game aside from this complaint, but nintendo jumped the shark with the annoying items. i would say skill has nothing to do with who wins at this point, but skill does determine who gets hit the most, so in a way skill still plays a big part in the gameplay; it's just that player skill determines who gets punished by items the most, not who wins the race. if you take 1st it's because the game backed off the items enough to let you, not because you earned it.

LordJumpMad

MKWii has better controls
MK7 has a mess of items

Their both fun to play but MKWii is more skill then MK7 which is pure luck.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

I miss bikes. I also find it incredibly lazy that they take out characters with every entry in the series. I see no reason for that, it's not like Super Smash Brothers where their moves have to be redone when a new game comes out--they're basically just skins and voices...
