To people saying MK7 is slow...it's the same speed as MK Wii and MK DS. The only MK that feels faster is MK64.
And I don't know how anyone can dislike the kart customization or say that there are less kart options than in MK Wii. There are easily thousands of different stat combinations when you take into account the character, kart, wheels, and glider. It's so in depth it's crazy and I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out the perfect combination for my character. I have a chart with all the hidden stats, with sea and sky speed, sea and sky handling, stability (unsure what this is), drift, and mini-turbo.

@SamuraiShyGuy: These "hidden" stats are stats you've estimated or they're actually retrievable from somewhere in the game?

They are real. They're in the strategy guide and can also be found here:

These stats are very important and you need to know them to make the perfect kart combination for your particular character. I assume they were not shown in the game so as not to overwhelm the player.

yup, my fav combo is Lakitu with the koopa clown, wood wheels and beast glider.

This makes me have really good mini turbo, good handling in all areas and fast air speed. Only down fall is the over all land speed:( thats what the mini turbo is for

@Zephren,
For my shy guy (same stats as your lakitu) I am currently using the train kart with mushroom wheels and beast glider. It makes up for shy guy's lack of speed and gives him good handling, drift, and min-turbo, with everything else being average. I'm going to add up the stats for a bunch of other combinations to see if anything is better than my current combo, but I doubt anything will beat it. It seems perfect for a lightweight character, try it out!

I like the wood wheels too, but they don't add enough to speed for my liking. I'll give your combo a look too.

I agree that Mario Kart 7 is far above Mario Kart Wii. There is no comparison between the two. Mario Kart Wii is a bit stunted while Mario Kart 7 returns us to the honorable days of Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart Double Dash!

I honestly prefer Mario Kart Wii. The vibrant, bloom lit graphics, the mega mushroom and fake ? block, more characters, bikes, 12 karts at once... it was just the perfect Mario Kart. Plus it had single player versus; why the heck was this not included in MK7?

Okay time to end this debate once and for all. Mario Kart Wii just plain sucks. It is 100% item rape, 100% of the time.

Hey, I don't like waste items. I just happen to get the ones, that gain me an advantage. Hey the items are meant to be used, I experienced horrible behavior online like this one guy, once pounded me until the game disconnected.

Oh and right, in MK7 I noticed: It's not a racing game, it's more of a party game!

Mario Kart Wii has 12 racers, bikes, some cool tracks and a better character roster, but I also felt that blue turtle shells attacked more often, and the Mega Mushroom and Thunder Cloud never helped, either.

Mario Kart 7 goes back to 8 racers, ditches bikes, not as good a character selection (but I like Metal Mario ), but the touch screen allows you to actually have a chance to dodge blue turtle shells and the items they added and took away in respect to Wii I find more favorable. (Goodbye, Mega Mushroom, AND THUNDER CLOUD, hello Lucky 7, Tanooki Leaf, and Fire Flower.)

So basically they each have their pros and cons, and I would play either of them.

I know! That really is the deciding factor for me. I spent at least 75% of my time playing Versus single-player in Mario Kart DS; taking out that mode really kills the offline single player value. Both games have great track design, and fun online, but I feel like the Wii had more options for game modes. However, they are both great games, and I'm content with my purchase of both.

While both games are great, I prefer Mario Kart 7. Unlike MKWii, I have never been pelted with ten items in a row, causing me to go to last place in seconds. Plus, it's a very nostalgic game, harkening back to almost every Mario Kart title from the past. I do miss Waluigi though...

I'm back (for the moment)!

I'm always being pelted by items, especially blue shells... they just don't stop coming.
And don't even get me started on the fireballs...
Oh, and the CPU accuracy.

I still love the game though

Mario Kart Wii, MK7 may have had the best stages but I liked the characters and karts in Wii more plus theres no rubberband AI. The bikes tho I have to admit, sucked and were nothing more than a mere gimmick but adding 4 more racers to every race made for a crazy and hectic time.

Nintendo will never die!

Hmm touch choice ..
Mario Kart Wii Advantages:Character Selection, Great Tracks
Mario Kart Wii Disadvantages: 12 Racers Was Crazy, Items got ridiculous
Mario Kart 7 Advantages: Vehicle customisation is fun, Back to 8 racers
Mario Kart 7 Dis Advantages: Character Selection
My preference is MK7 but its close
