I like both alot, there are things better about one and about the other. For example:
I liked battle mode in MKwii more because there were 10 stages insted of 6 and they were more fun to play.
In MK7, the star ranks and online points are easier to get because what you get doesn't depend on skill or luck like in the other games, but it depends on what place you get in or how many points you get.
I like the 12 players in MKwii because if you got hit alot and ended up in 8th, at least you weren't last place yet.
Online mode is great in both, MK7 has communities wich are great but online itself has a lot of errors >
Online in MKwii doesn't give you more to do but at least it's smoother and doesn't have that many error's

I think the thing that ruined MK overall was the Blue/Spiny Shell... it was funny a few sequels ago, but now it's just a punishment for being good and destroying the competition. Really?!

MK7 is also full of item rape... get Blue Shelled, Lightning Bolt and then fall off a cliff or get flattened. So that's 8th place and no coins... yay...

MK7 also feels really, really slow. Even on 150cc it feels like a Sunday afternoon drive... what am I carrying on my kart? A lead weight?! MOVE!

There may be kart customization, but there aren't enough parts to make it unique and any kart you make lacks interest or any sort of outstanding statistics. It's just the exact same as Standard with added on plumage.

MK7 is amazing, but I think it could have been something even more amazing. Karts lack character, karts feel slow and the player list sucks... Metal Mario and Honey Bee? What were you thinking?

Mk 7 is better than MK Wii in my opinion because I don't like having 12 players on the same race and having wide track that don't lead to branching paths makes them boring.

Mario kart 7 is the best Mario kart since Super Mario kart for the Snes.

Well for me it is anyway.

I've got MK7 still in it's wrapping and I already know it's going to be the best MK since Super Mario Kart. Just waiting for my new Headphones to arrive in the mail so i can finally play my 3DS again, it's been a month now since Donkey Kong on the VC hehe.

Anyways, Super Mario Kart is just as great as it was a zillion years ago, an extremely amazing experience it twas' back during it's relase no doubty' , yet I never cared too much for Mario Kart 64 growing up....even 'then' those lifeless and bare bones 3D polygon graphics threw me off....it completely lacked the appeal, charm and cuteness of the original. Super Circuit based on what i remember during the GBA Launch period was pretty good. Double Dash!! completely escaped me, and I think I'm one of the few who wasn't too crazy at all over Mario Kart DS. Those ugly 32 bit polygon DS graphics completely threw me off....

It would of been miles better looking and actually again 'charming' had it been Sprite based. The amount of detail and 'character' Nintendo could of threw in would of been spectacular. I know gameplay comes first, but it was just a blocky eye sore in spots and it overshadowed the experience for me...

And i never really got into Mario Kart Wii aside from playing it at my friends for a few hours. What can I say, I enjoyed it more than MK64 and MKDS that's for sure....But it really annoyed me that nintendo Mucked with the grinding/dashing....I guess it's a fair shake considering the amount of Belmont-Bozo's online who abuse Snaking.

haha Super mario kart will always be an amazing experience. (even in the future where virtual reality becomes a possibility, Super mario kart will always be one of the best games of all time )

and yeah mario kart 64 just seemed lifeless compared to it's Snes brethren.

While Super circuit although not too amazing did manage to merge the 64/Snes formula into a pretty good Mario kart.

Double dash Is probably my third favorite out of the series, the two people in one kart thing, while wild, was very amusing to see. It's like Nintendo tried so many new and good ideas with double dash. Such a shame some of those things have yet to return.

And I Passed on Mario kart DS....at the time couldn't afford it. (but that idea about making it into a a sprite based mario kart instead would have been amazing to see

and of course Wii was just, well, I don't know. It just felt like Nintendo didn't try anything special with it. I mean it just felt bare compared to all the other games. While the huge character roster and bikes were an ok touch. It just lacked that certain magic.

Mk7 has the worst item balance I've seen in Mario Kart. Really, you can get it by 2 items in a row like every lap. As well, no SP VS = laziness. The online works pretty good however.

Double Dash is still my favorite.

I like both games, but I felt that Mario Kart Wii was a bit too chaotic and cramped for 12 characters. However, Mario Kart Wii has the superior character selection. Mario Kart 7 has an amazing feature, which is Kart customization, and I simply adore how every person plays differently. Both games suffer from item rape, but at least in Mario Kart 7 you can play without items. Overall, I like Mario Kart 7 more than Mario Kart Wii.

I thought Double Dash was a horrible Mario Kart experience. Felt slower, the tracks seemed altogether too wide and not as chaotic as the other entries. Didn't feel much like a race anyway.

Mario kart 7 is good but Mario kart wii was more colorful and fun Maybe if they have added the single player v.s for Mario kart7 I think it would have been better. But if you mixed Mario kart wii with Mario kart 7 then it would be totally awesome.

If you're talking about after falling off the track, no it doesn't.

...then don't use big karts. I would agree with you about a lot of the courses being on the short side, but even so the game is still loads of fun to play, and it has excellent replay value. I must have played each track an average of over 30 times and I'm still not tired of the game at all yet.
Alright, to everyone who says the item balance is horrible, it's not nearly as bad as MKW's and it's about the same as MKDS'. To prove this, I played through each of the 8 cups on 150cc using Lakitu in the Koopa Clown with Red Monster wheels and the Paraglider. I did not use any tactics like dropping out of first when someone recieved a blue shell, but I did block/dodge red and blue shells whenever I had the chance. For Wuhu Loop, Maka Wuhu, and Rainbow Road, I counted each section as a lap. I kept track of the following:

Total number of blue shells, including ones I dodged and ones that were launched when I was not in 1st: 4 for the mushroom and star cups, 2 for the flower and special cups, 3 for the shell, banana, and lightning cups, and 5 for the leaf cup, making 26 in total.

Total number of blue shell dodges, including any blue shell which was targeted at me that I avoided in any way: 1 for the star and special cups, 2 for the leaf cup, and 0 for all other cups, making 4 in total.

Number of thunderbolts: 2 for the mushroom, flower, star, and banana cups, 1 for the special and shell cups, 0 for the leaf cup, and 3 for the lightning cup, making 13 in total.

Number of red shells that hit me or would have hit me had I not dodged/blocked them: 6 for the mushroom and lightning cups, 3 for the flower, star, banana, and leaf cups, 1 for the special cup, and 5 for the shell cup, making 30 in total.

Number of blue shells that hit 1st place over a bottomless pit, regardless of whether or not I was in 1st at the time: 1 for the mushroom cup, 0 for all other cups.

Number of thunderbolts that hit me over a bottomless pit: 0 (never happened.)

Number of blue shells that hit 1st when they were on the final lap, regardless of whether or not I was in 1st at the time: 3 for the mushroom cup, 1 for the flower and special cups, 2 for the star, leaf, and lightning cups, and 0 for all other cups, making 11 in total.

Number of blue shells that hit 1st place within 5 seconds of the finish: 1 for the star cup, 0 for all other cups.

Number of blue shells that hit 1st place within 2 seconds of the finish: 0.

Number of red shells that hit me or would have hit me had I not blocked them on the final lap: 3 for the flower and shell cups, 1 for the star, special, and leaf cups, 2 for the banana and lightning cups, and 0 for the mushroom cups, making 13 in total.

Number of red shells that hit or would have hit me within 5 seconds of the finish: 1 for the shell cup, 0 for all other cups.

Number of red shells that hit or would have hit me within 2 seconds of the finish: 0.

Number of times I got hit by two red shells, blue shells, or thunderbolts within 5 seconds of each other: 2 for the mushroom cup, 1 for the shell, banana, and lightning cups, and 0 for all other cups, making 5 in total.

Other notable facts: On Wario Shipyard I got blue shelled right before I went off the small jump at the end. While it technically didn't hit me over a bottomless pit or knock me off the track, it did cause me to fall off the moment I started moving because I was right at the edge. On Wuhu Loop and Rainbow Road, not a single blue shell or lightning appeared. There were other races without a blue shell or thunderbolt, but I forgot to write down the tracks on which those races took place. I recieved a 3 star rank on the mushroom, flower, and lightning cups; on the shell cup I finished all races in 1st but I didn't get 3 stars. I never got squished after getting hit with lightning.
As you can see, there is an average of less than 1 blue shell and less than half a thunderbolt per race. There aren't too many chances to dodge blue shells, but they can be dodged more often than you might think. Getting hit by a red or blue shell in the third lap happens less than half the time, and getting hit by one less than 5 seconds before the finish is very rare. It is also uncommon to be hit with several items in a row or get hit over a bottomless pit.
My conclusion: I think most of you complaining about the item balance are highly exaggerating the frequency of blue shells and thunderbolts. Most of the time you can recover from blue and red shells rather quickly and if you do get screwed over once in a while then hope for better luck next time. If you absolutely must finish every single race in 1st then Mario Kart probably isn't the game for you.

If the 3DS has not been discontinued SM3DL and MK7 are awesome games, but if the 3DS has been discontinued Sony has taken over the world. It is not true that both Sony has taken over the world and SM3DL and MK7 are not awesome games. Therefore:Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are...

Okay time to end this debate once and for all. Mario Kart Wii just plain sucks. It is 100% item rape, 100% of the time. The items are 100 times more balanced in MK7. All you noobs just don't know how to properly play a MK game. The older games were as much about defense as offense. DD started the trend of you losing items every time you got hit, so you had no choice but to use your items the minute you got them, instead of waiting for the right moment. It you're about to get his by a shell or other items (except for the Blue Spiney of course) drop and drag a shell (instead of shooting it backwards like a sissy) or banana to block the item. Instead of using your lightning right away wait until someone goes off a jump or around a corner near water. There are lots of little tricks that are impossible to pull of in MK Wii or DS, because more than likely you get item raped before you get a chance. Learn to play the game properly and you see.

I'm also glad they got rid of most of those stupid ramps that plagued the Wii game. Those got annoying.

I've seriously lost a lot of faith in Mario Kart since I played 7. I now realize that it takes no skill to win. It's totally predictable how the outcome will unfold and ONE item can change literally everything. The blue shells in MK7 are not fixed (they should only appear if the person in first is drastically ahead of the person in second). Red shells should be the only way to dethrone the person in first at close range. MKWii was just as bad as this but not game breaking.

I dislike the game, the new tracks (mainly the Wuhu levels), aren't even close to par with it's predecessors, and the characters, kart customization is, well, awful.

Oh and spectating is really ****ing annoying especially when you have to watch a race from beginning to end only to play one round with randoms thus being disconnected. I'll go back to CoD thank you.

You've never played MK7 have you? MK7 has so many unnecessary ramps it's downright ridiculous.
