aonuma was asked about a majora's mask remake during a recent interview and said this:
"It's been 13 years since Ocarina of Time was originally released, and one of the big things that made this remake possible was that there was an outpour of emotions from people who said they would like to see this game done. We said we could do it in 3D, so we did. I think certainly if there was a similar output of emotion and clamor from fans for a remake of Majora's Mask, it wouldn't be an utter impossibility.
Thinking on it now, having a handheld Majora's Mask where you could kind of just set things down on your own time - close it, set it aside and come back to it later - might be a game play element some fans will actually take to and might really appreciate. Especially considering how you really had to rush through the original game, in a sense. " http://www.zeldainformer.com/2011/07/more-skyward-sword-aonum...
it sounds like he genuinely has interest in doing it. a lot of people who hated it before might like it better if you could use sleep mode to get around the lack of a normal save system, so nintendo has an incentive to remake it and get the people who didn't like it before on board. but i hope they wouldn't change the 3 day system in any other way to accommodate the haters.... either way, time to bombard nintendo with emails.
So now Nintendo will move via e-mail flooding? Did the company fire all the business development departments (they certainly should)? I know of two other similar pathetic examples, Megaman and Castlevania for 3DS ... "... if players demostrate they really want them ..." Well Nintendo, do you want a tip for free (hear well, for free), might be players want a new and fresh Zelda for 3DS, might be players wants to see a little effort from your side.
I'd buy up this remake as soon as possible, Majora's Mask has an amazing atmosphere and great gameplay, but with a little fine-tuning (such as clearer objectives and faster frame rate), I'd like it that much more.
Yeah, MM is one of my favorite Zelda games, but please, first a new one. Or do we want a system which only gives us remakes of (awesome) games?
Like the Game Boy Advance?
I'd be fine with a MM remake, although I didn't see what was wrong with the original game's save systems. And since MM uses a lot of OoT character models, the game would be super easy to make and produce a lot of money.
Majora's mask is my favourite Zelda game but I think they should make at least one new original Zelda game on the 3DS before another remake.
It'll probably be Grezzo that works on that and Nintendo the works on a new zelda if they decide to.[/quote I hope so....Grezzo did a very good job with Zelda 3d. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grezzo
@CowLaunch Ocarina has been released countless times? Let's count. 1. The original N64 release 2. As part of that Wind Waker offer that came with Master Quest. 3. That Zelda Collection for Gamecube that had the original, Adventure of Link, Ocarina, and Majora's Mask. 4. The Wii VC release and 5. the 3DS release.

So, only 4 re releases.
Not to mention the first came with Master Quest, the second was free with a purchase of a Gamecube at the time (and came with Majora's Mask), the third was on a service was gonna release it anyway (with Majora's Mask) and the final one is a nice remastered version

like other people have said, there's no reason grezzo couldn't handle this while nintendo makes a new zelda. they probably wouldn't need much oversight since most of the groundwork was laid with ocarina of time. but in all honesty, i'd rather have majora's mask than a new game anyway...
there are a lot of legitimate reasons to do a remake besides cashing in- for one, this game needs a touchscreen more than ocarina of time did with all the masks you swap around, especially in ikana canyon where you need 3 masks and the ocarina at once... that was about as bad as the iron boots in the water temple.
there's also much more use for 3D in this game since you move at higher speeds than you ever did in ocarina, like when you're rolling around as the goron or swimming as the zora. in particular rolling into the snowhead boss and swimming through the beaver dam rings would be a lot easier with 3D depth, those rings still give me trouble today. i imagine landing from flights as the deku scrub would also be a little easier.
