Bananas still dramatically helps from what you would have lost by being hit with a Blue Shell. What I am trying to say it no matter what situation you are in you will ALWAYS have SEVERAL options. If you put the time to practice them, then you will be able to use them in any race/course. Not all the situations are the same, but there's always a way. You will fail a lot but no one said it was easy. Hence the skill I said it requires to dodge them.

If you want to see this in action, the CPU characters actually offer ways you can do them which is where most of these tactics came from on higher difficulties. The CPUS seem to dodge Blue Shells more in this game then any other game (or at all, not sure about the others).

But it doesn't prevent it all together. Let alone the fact that they are always coming at you at the most random times.

This also cannot be applied to some Mario Karts. (Your strategies that is.)

Really?
REALLY?!... I am specifically... telling... you... the ones for... Mario Kart 7... I barely play the others... so I have... no idea...

Besides, you played 50cc, do you really want to stay in 1st for the whole race without much happening. You gotta fight for your place to stay in first honey. It ain't a privilege you got to earn it.
We'll see when I see you on the track when my 3DS arrives...

I always thought this topic was named Least Favorite Mario Kart Item (all mario karts) not Least Favorite Mario Kart 7 Item (just mario kart 7).

We're talking about Blue Shells and how they are unbalanced and ruin the game when they appear multiple times in one match making it unfair for the skilled players to win. Not just Mario Kart 7. Focusing on how to prevent blue shells in one game isn't really doing all too much for the discussion. I'm familiar with every entry that isn't 7 and most of your tactics do not work whatsoever hence why most people dislike the item.

Trust me you won't see me on the track anytime soon. My doctor recommends I stay away from mediocrity when it comes to my diet. He says it's unhealthy.

It would be pure luck if there was zero skill involved in winning
It would be unfair if there were different sets of rules for different players

If it was pure luck then I wouldn't find myself consistently in the top few places. Everyone's win-loss ratio in Mario Kart DS would be 50:50 and my score or whatever it is in Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7 wouldn't move. Back in the day the round-robin style "loser gives up the controller" style split screen matches on the N64 wouldn't have one person holding the controller most/all of the time. Given these observable facts I think it's fair to say that it's not just pure luck.

If it was unfair some players would start with an unfair advantage. Having blue shells doesn't make it unfair it just means there is more strategy involved with where you sit in the game. If someone has a blue shell and someone's just behind you before a massive air section... you stop and let them overtake or you try to get them in the blast radius. You could have just as easily been in their position or, if you were better at the game, you could have opened up enough of a lead that it wouldn't have mattered.

The only times I have seen unfair and luck based Mario Kart is when there were shortcut glitches that more chivalrous players weren't going to take and when someone had hacked the game. When someone keeps spamming the field with blue shells and bombs at a rate of 10 or so per lap then it's pretty much pure luck and it gives the spammer an unfair advantage. Those sort of things should be patched out of the game.

Wuhu Island Loop glitch just before the 3 floating platforms. Jump in the water when about to get hit by a blue shell. You'll respawn but the incoming noise will still play and annoy you till the race is over. It's a fussy glitch though

I've seen people do that when I have 3 red shells. XD

The only adjustment I would make is to disable the blue shell during the final lap, or even just the last half of the final lap. Otherwise, it's great fun as far as I'm concerned.

That's a good idea! Its just unfair to go the whole race doing well and then be hit by the blue shell and lose, its not right. While the blue shell will always be annoying for people, it definitely would be more bearable if we at least got a chance to get back into the race after being hit with one. (Only being hit in the 1st and 2nd laps)

In MK7, you can see what items other players have, so if you see a Blue Shell, hit the brakes and let 2nd place overtake you. If you're too far from 2nd place, then the Blue Shell will not make you lose, but it will only make the distance between you and 2nd place tighter.

@Kyloctopus Sorry, but I think nearly all the good players are already aware of that trick.

In terms of uselessness, Blooper. Does not help at all except (depending on the game) slow CPUs down slightly. Just when I need something to hit a player or two in front of me to get ahead, I get that unhelpful squid.

In terms of overall annoyance, Blue (Spikey) Shell. When I get hit by one, 9 out of 10 times its when I'm on the last lap just before I cross the finish line, costing me the race!

Fake item boxes, they are truely useless... Can't even block red shells with them apart from in 6, it's basically a downgrade to the banana.

POW Block... seriously, this thing is pointless. On the last hit, just shake the remote and... oh, you don't spin out, you lose an item but you don't spin out. I thought the point was to make you spin out, but nope... you can avoid that.

Also the Thunder Cloud... like I really want to be playing hot potato in the middle of a race.

i dont like the tanooki tale

you cant really use it in corners without slipping of the edges while drifiting and it blocks you from getting new items till its gone again.

I don't really hate any in particular... but I hate it when, on the third lap, im way ahead of everyone and then i get lightning, 3 red koopa shells, and hit by starman, and blue koopa shell AT THE SAME TIME... c'mon Nintendo, the items were put there so 8th placers could occasionally win, but thisgoes to the point where it isn't fair anymore. Nintendo, FIX THIS!!! Also , it's really annoying to get hit by blue koopa shells 3 times PER RACE...

Yeah that doesn't happen. If lighting was thrown out first everyone would have lost their items so the blue shells and red shells would have been thrown away. The items could have used before the lightning but for that to happen you would have had to have had a convincing lead or the items would have pretty much voided their effect by landing so close to each other.

Ontop of that if someone aimed the starman and timed the red shells so perfectly that they hit you with maximum effectiveness and you did nothing to avoid them you deserve to lose first place. You should have seen the items on the bottom screen and worked out a way to minimise the impact. If someone uses the lightning bolt while you are on a piece of air then tough, thems be the game. If you want it to be purely about skill have a rematch and pick something like SNES Rainbow Road. If you are coming 8th in that track it's either because your opponents are fairly good or because you suck.

Im pretty sure it doesn't zap the shells out of existance while headed towrds me. I get zapped by lightning(thus losing bananas and shells) then hit by the shells, then someone with a starman hits me. It's happened... more than once. No, you can't avoid it if you can't move. Even if you avoid one of the threats, all the others are bound to hit you.

I must say it is amazing how the same item can change from one game to the next. For example, I was playing MKW (have not played it for months, but I was in a nostalgic mood) the other day. And I was used to being able to drive right past someone who had a blue shell about to strike them without getting hit myself (i.e. MK7), but the blast radius in Wii is so much bigger! That, and I would swerve whenever I heard a blue shell coming though, again because of MK7.

I strongly disagree with the blue shells argument. They aren't bad at all! They were really only annoying in MK64, where they would constantly hit no one. My least favorite item is the fake box. I am actually glad they removed it from MK7, as it seemed impossible to put the box where you want to without having to slow down. The Banana peels are much easier to place.

Also I think the MK7 Blue Shell is the only one that moves on land and hits everyone in its path, while the others fly past everyone except the person in 1st.

Did you play mario kart 64? Because blue shells in that game do the same thing as in mario kart 7 only in mk64 they were a very rare item.
