Wuhu Island Loop glitch just before the 3 floating platforms. Jump in the water when about to get hit by a blue shell. You'll respawn but the incoming noise will still play and annoy you till the race is over. It's a fussy glitch though

Yeah, you will get one star or the bullet while standing in 1st place...

(...)well timed drift boost.

Sure. Although that only works in two games and some courses. Banana ? That also only works while you are in the air...
About the mushroom, i don't understand how that falls in the category of "skilled player".
How many courses allow you to make a drift boost in the end ?

*Really, i'm not trying to be rude, but some of you take this series like a religion.

Mehh I love mario kart either way, call it a party game or a racing simulation it does take skill regardless, and even though its not a "serious" racer, Id rather player MK7 over half the other crap out these days, not like the new need for speed games or any other games are as fun to play.

Throw the banana in front or behind you (go in reverse) and land on it. You can also do a hop for the, being in the air, tactic.

You still need to use the mushroom at the right time.

How did you got the 30%.

Double Coin in Super Mario Kart.

Thunder Cloud gives me a boost and can shrink an opponent, the feather/leaf in SMK can be useful for shortcuts or to jump into an impenetrable square in battle mode, the blooper is at least annoying to your opponents, fake item block is better than a banana peel, fire flower has a short range but can be devastating and the tanooki tail can take out a heap of opponents if you are in a tight spot and is good for defending.

Double Coin? Unless you're on zero coins and are freaked out about being spun out it's totally useless. Regardless of what place I'm in (except maybe first with the blooper) give me any of those other items over a Double Coin any day.

Lol I forgot about the double coin. Yeah that is a pretty useless item. My thing though it always seems that I get that item when I have a whole bunch of coins.

Practice.

Considering how it travels by air, I don't see how a banana can prevent it.

I don't really hate any in particular... but I hate it when, on the third lap, im way ahead of everyone and then i get lightning, 3 red koopa shells, and hit by starman, and blue koopa shell AT THE SAME TIME... c'mon Nintendo, the items were put there so 8th placers could occasionally win, but thisgoes to the point where it isn't fair anymore. Nintendo, FIX THIS!!! Also , it's really annoying to get hit by blue koopa shells 3 times PER RACE...

Yeah that doesn't happen. If lighting was thrown out first everyone would have lost their items so the blue shells and red shells would have been thrown away. The items could have used before the lightning but for that to happen you would have had to have had a convincing lead or the items would have pretty much voided their effect by landing so close to each other.

Ontop of that if someone aimed the starman and timed the red shells so perfectly that they hit you with maximum effectiveness and you did nothing to avoid them you deserve to lose first place. You should have seen the items on the bottom screen and worked out a way to minimise the impact. If someone uses the lightning bolt while you are on a piece of air then tough, thems be the game. If you want it to be purely about skill have a rematch and pick something like SNES Rainbow Road. If you are coming 8th in that track it's either because your opponents are fairly good or because you suck.

No you hit yourself with it to decrease the impact/slow down you would get from the Blue Shell. Also it only travels by air in the last instance. Which is why you can use a Bob-Omb while it travels on the ground.

The only adjustment I would make is to disable the blue shell during the final lap, or even just the last half of the final lap. Otherwise, it's great fun as far as I'm concerned.

I really don't have a problem with items in Mario Kart.
Sure, sometimes you can get pretty bad luck that can cause you to fall from first to last even, but in general the better racers still win and that's what matters.
It adds more skill to the game with having to think about what all your opponents are up to and find ways to minimise the damage done by items as much as possible.
If the items weren't there then the better players would just win by a mile every race, and unless everyone is very even in ability, the races would get boring pretty quickly.

And calling it a "party game" is pretty silly.
Sure, it's not a really serious game, but it is still a racing game nonetheless.
Mario Party is a party game (and one of the most frustrating franchises in my opinion, much more than Mario Kart).

You could argue that Mario Kart requires about as much skill as it does pure luck.
I find racing in a game like Mario Kart with no items rather boring. It falls apart at the seams for me personally. This isn't exactly Gran Turismo is it?

I'm talking about Mario Kart DS, Double Dash!!, and Wii. Not 7.

Also, bananas aren't a solution then. It just helps you in the long run. And if you have a Bob-omb in first place you're very lucky. Key word: lucky.

I think Mario Kart 7 is at a good place where the items are integral to the gameplay as always but your driving performance matters more than in , say, Wii. If a racer is strictly driving it gets boring unless there's drifting and turns at every corner and if it's strictly annoying items it becomes too hectic and random to want to attempt to win.

It's boring played as a straight racer. No items = no fun.
I can't play in communities with no items. It doesn't feel right. You're almost forcing it to do something it wasn't designed for!
