Topic: Keep getting 005-4040 error on eshop

This probably been asked or brought up before on the forum but I have had more 3DS since launch and today I have been unable to access the eShop. I keep getting the 005-4040 error. Does anybody know what this means, ive tried googling, changing the region back and forth so I can sign the agreement etc but still no joy.

Ive tried calling Customer Services but they are not in the office till 8:30 Monday. The only thing the Nintendo website recommend is turning it off on switching back on again. I was hoping to here others may have been getting the error as I would have definetly known it would have been at their end then. Also it has an error trying to update but I ust assume the eshop and the updates will be on same server.

@Raptor78 From what I can gather on the good-old internet, your 3DS can't connect to the E-shop. That may be because of you moving to a different region (from the US to Europe) or Nintendo taking down the shop for maintenance. I'm not 100% on that, but that's what other forums are telling me.

thats what I gathered, but as im using my home internet with a launch 3DS with a shop account in credit and downloaded games (so I know it was working before) I am really stuck for an answer.
Thanks for getting back to me though, I was really hoping others would have a similar issue then I could have put it down to maintenance but its been hours and nobody else seems to have an issue.

Dont want to format my 3DS because I have all the Extra Data DLC from Sam Warriors and DoA, unlocked everything that was built in with system and have a full friends list, etc. Ive read that so long as I dont remove my eshop account even if I format the system I can still redownload my games but I still have a lot to lose.

hey, I know. Just glad ive got plenty of stuff on my 3DS to play... knowing my luck they will announce the rest of the Ambassador stuff and I will be the only person unable to download them. lol

Well I woke this morning to a flashing blue Notification. When I checked it, it was the adverr for Freakyforms... Again!!
Checked the eShop and Update, no changes to eShop but I can access it again and my 3DS is still up to date.
Whatever it was it seems to have been at their end but I dont understand why it just seemed to have affected me.

At least Its working again for me. Mabey its because they have two Firmwares accessing the store ,usually they prompt you to update so everybody is on the same firmware before accessing the store but because of the SML update on the cart they have two different versions up and running. Still not long now till where all getting the new update.

I doubt they wil come out tomorrow.
I feel like they'll come out a week after we hear about the remaining titles. Since we have had no word yet I figure we still have a long wait ahead.
I still want a release date for the official November update

if you have sml then its because you have the wrong firmware and the shop is still at the current firmware and you have a future one
