Sweet freaking Jesus. 400 yen for a Game Boy Classic game?

So you're all aware. 400 yen is about $4 in terms of value. So what you'd expect to cost $1 in the US/ Australia costs 100 yen in Japan.

And it's worth noting that I was buying full, new, DS games in Japan for between 500-1000 Yen.

So I was right in assuming that the virtual console stuff is going to be insanely expensive for the content. Well done Nintendo in playing on nostalgia to gouge people.

Very interesting. According to this, Gameboy titles will range between 3 and 4 dollars. What's weird tho is that the column that I believed to be the game's price is still in point denomination, not cash. Anyway, I hope this is a sign of what our launch may look like because that actually looks pretty good!

So, one Gameboy game would be 3,5€ when NES games are 5€? I was hoping for 3€ but looks like it's gonna be 4€, not too bad
I'm sure to buy some Gameboy games when I get my 3DS.

EDIT: Excitebike looks like it would be 600 yens if it wouldn't be free. I like those 3DSWare prices too.

It's its, not it's.

Ah, those are yen! That makes sense as to why they are not in dollar format. Well if it does end up carrying over to us directly and Gameboy games are 3-4 dollars then I think that's fair. Perhaps a bit high but generally fair. There are only certain Gameboy games I would plan on picking up anyway and that group of games is worth every bit of 4 dollars. Are there some games that are a terrible value at 4 dollars? of course. No one is forcing you to buy them though. And with the fact that users can rate things on the eShop, I think it will be a lot harder for crappy games to slip through.

DAMN IT!!!! I have one and only one Sudoku game on DSiWare and that would be Sudoku Master by Hudson! And you wanna know the kicker? That is the very same piece of software that I really got into a lot right before I stopped using my DSi. Oh and no Art Academy? That really sucks too! Oh well, I guess it could be worse. I guess I'm now in the market for a new downloadable DS Sudoku game. I think I'll look into that Brain Age one that came out. Ive always wanted to buy it to kind of complete the trilogy of Brain Age DSiWare games but couldn't justify it since I already had a Sudoku game. Problem solved I suppose Oh yeah, and no Ashphalt, ouch

Because Japan gets treated like gold while the rest of the world is treated like common garbage. Its what Nintendo has always done and I've grown used to it.

$4 isn't that expensive. Game boy games have a fair amount of depth so it's pretty good

Might be because Japan is ahead of most other territories in terms of time zones. Hopefully we'll see the European and American sites up soon

Wait...I've got a question....the 3DS VC logo shows a Gameboy AND a Gameboy Color....so where are the freaking GBC games?? I though that Zelda one was supposed to be out on launch...

I noticed that as well and have kept looking around on the site, so far no GBC games which is strange since Link's Awakening was supposed to be a launch title. On another note, 3D NES GAMES!!

Currently Playing:
Zelda II: Adventure of Link

The GameBoy prices impress me for the wrong reasons. These games are up to 22 years old on hardware that wasn't the most impressive for its time. They're charging more money for these old games than brand new downloadable ones...even on their own service. It's not far from the price of a PSOne classic and you can get four terrific $1 apps from the app store for that price.

On the bright side, I can think of a few reasons to buy the games, such as rarity and simple convince. I'll wait on North American and European pricing before I get uppity about it. xD They may or may not be cheaper with the economy and all that.

I might keep my dsi then because I was planning on getting Earthworm Jim on dsiware but I haven't got it yet.

guys keep in mind the gaming industry is far bigger in japan, there's a reason the prices are high

Exactly. The fact Nintendo feels it can charge that much for those games shows Nintendo has no intention to learn how to properly price digitally downloadable games - especially retro ones.

You can download Final Fantasy VII for the cost of three Game Boy games....

Nintendo is smart enough to realise suckers (myself included) will pay for this, but it's a very arrogant and off-putting position for them to take.

Thats just great, I own all those as well as a load of others.... do you think there any chance of transfering them to my sons DSi otherwise thats a lot a Nintendo points down the toilet. Obviously not bothered by the Browser or Flipnote, but c'mon Earthworm Jim!!!!
