I do wish there were more platformers but supposedly "nobody likes platformers", according to another thread I was reading.
It's starting to have more RPGs and boring side scrollers than anything.
Rodeo the Sky Soldier (3DS) looks to be as traditional as they come even down to the awful low unstable N64 esq framerate.
Ugh this game has been a disaster from the start in terms of development. Both the Wii & 3DS versions look like N64 games and the WiiU looks like a PS2 game and even after all this time they barely show you what you can do in the game except run around huge empty landscapes and do random NiGHTS Into Dreams tricks.
After all the N64 ports to the 3DS they sure dropped the ball in terms of bringing any 3D platforming remakes around. When I think of 3D platforming I think N64. I always thought DK64 would have been a good remake, but we got Country Returns instead, which was fun but yeah...
Because they are pretty universally terrible (Excluding Nintendo).
Cases in point Rayman 2 (Dreamcast) is pretty good the two Rayman 2 ports are absolutely dire (DS and 3DS).
The N64 Rayman 2 was really good and was the one I played as a kid. Also Gex was PS1 & N64, both pretty decent as far as I know. There were plenty of other third party platformers that fared well for the N64 that were exclusive or crossed over with PS1.

Your only point is Rayman 2? Out of the 20 billion games you only remembered Rayman exists? You obviously have a very narrow view of what the N64, GCN and Wii offered.

Which of those games are ports ? Only one I can think of is Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (GC) which is the best version and better than later ports. (It is also 14 years old).
The potential exists for ports to a more powerful system to be better. (i.e Something like Gauntlet Legends on the Dreamcast is much better than the rubbish N64 version).
The main topic is about ports (Or the same game with a rubbish framerate but different levels) to the 3DS which are bad even when Nintendo does it. (Only exception being Smash Bros).
“30fps Is Not a Good Artistic Decision, It's a Failure”
Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.
Knack really hurt the genre for this gen. It was supposed to revive the genre to the widest audience possible then it crashed. Now all the kids that were supposed to be the target audience are playing COD or GTA. I'm pessimistic about the next Ratchet and Clank because of this
Because they are just old games made available on a new platform. I want a modern 3D platformer experience, with all the refinements an 8th gen game would have, not a PS1 game from the 20th century.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

Your logic on ports makes no sense. "IT ONLY COUNTS IF THE ORIGINAL ONE WAS GOOD." Only you are discounting ports that all acted the same. It's common knowledge that your other bad example of Sonic Adventure 2 was the same across platforms on the original 3. And no the topic is talking about the 3DS and having lack of platformers and you're on about GameCube and N64 ports.
I share this disappointment in the genre. But you know, genres seem to go through phases. The last generation was awful for JRPGs and 3D platformers alike. JRPGs have started to make a bit of a comeback now. Hopefully platformers will follow. It surely can't be just shooters for the rest of gaming eternity.
I completely agree on the above emphasis for exploration rather than timing. Xenoblade Chronicles is frankly about as close to Mario 64 as New Super Mario Bros is. Those open 3D games were as much about curiosity and attention as they were about skill and reaction times.
