Topic: Issue Upgrading MicroSDHC Card on New 3DS XL

Hey guys. I wanted to see if anyone has ran or currently has this problem. I have a New 3DS XL. When I did the system transfer from my regular XL, I did the wireless transfer where it only transferred the licenses and I had to redownload the games (Because I didn't have a larger MicroSD card at the time). I did the system transfer and it worked perfect.

Now, I'm at a point where I have purchased a 16GB MicroSDHC card. When I take the 4GB out, copy the files to my computer and back to the 16GB, the New 3DS XL does not read them. I have tried formatting the card in many different ways. I have contacted Nintendo but they do not have a solution for me at this time. The card works in the 3DS because I can go and download large games, such as MH4U, just no data. When I check my street pass games on the 16GB after transfer, they're all gone, as are the themes and all game data. So right now, I'm having to resort to using the 4GB and have 0 space to download hardly anything.

I've had this issue since system launch, but I did try to do another copy a few minutes ago with no luck. Any thoughts on this? Hopefully I explained it clear. Also, I did try another model MicroSDHC card with no luck. I also used the recommended formatting tool by Nintendo.

Are you copying the files over exactly as they were on the original card? The fact that the 3DS cannot read data that you have copied but can add it's own would make me think that something is going south during transfer

But if he is copying the "all" the files from the previous SDHC to the new SDHC directly and exactly then that would mean that the 3DS ID has changed on the New 3DS XL no? Also, I would recommend upgrading to the full 32GB... I upgraded from 4GB to 16GB first as well and boy was I wrong... Had to upgrade to 32GB eventually anyway in my New 3DS Ambassador. Got the 16GB in my 2DS now.

Systems: Wii U, Wii, New 3DS Ambassador Edition, 2DS
Amiibo Collection: Villager, Rosalina, Zelda, Sheik, Toon Link, Link, Marth, Ike, Robin, Lucina, Pit, Shulk, Fox, Yoshi, Toad, Squid Inkling, Meta Knight, Ganondorf (pre-ordered), Yarn Yoshi (pre-ordered)

The ID is irrelevant as it has already been transferred to the new system according to the OP. It's just the files on the SD card that are being transferred to the new card, albeit unsuccessfully

Yes I did. Select All copy, select all paste. I've done this many times in the past for the other XL and worked flawless (for me, wife, friends, etc) And I have a 32GB now. I bought it after I started this process. I ended up taking the 16GB out of another device, when initially trying it. If it worked, I was going to try to upgrade again to the 32GB (I had a 32GB on my regular XL). I stated 16GB because I wanted everything to be honest, but that's not the issue obviously.

My thought process was like you said, the ID somehow changed on the New XL. I'm considering buying another New XL and doing a data transfer to a larger card, and then back 7 days later... but that is excessive.

If the ID changed, then you wouldn't have been able to re download your games from the eStore. Certainly very odd indeed. Could it be the brand of SD card is causing an issue?

Not my ID, I meant like the hardware ID being bound to the card somehow. That's just something Nintendo mentioned. And it's an SD card that is on Nintendo's list of recommended cards... plus the rep mentioned it would be fine. I tried another type of card also, within the Sandisk brand. The card does work though as I'm able to download and install games (plus it detects it)... just the data transfer does not and apparently I'm the only person having this issue.

Well, hopefully Nintendo can help you out. Its definitely not an issue that I've come across before either. Good luck with it!

I appreciate your input. I've done my share of research on the matter and I will continue to troubleshoot... but at this time, I really just want to play the thing more than anything... so I'm constantly having to delete games to do so. I do purchase retail first, so it makes things easier... but still - had to delete three games to download Iron Fall. Hah. Stinks when I have 100+ games purchased on 3DS eShop. Edit: There is an open ticket with Nintendo so I am awaiting their callback. I will update with anything I find out.

No worries, just clutching at straws now I must confess. The way you've described should have worked. It's basically what I did when I upgraded to the N3DS but I just went for a 16GB. Cheers, would be good to know what you find out!

I can't help with most of the other stuff, but the Streetpass games have to be downloaded again via Streetpass, not the eStore. Just walk up to the rabbit holes, pas the normal games and you can then re-download them. I was surprised that my transfer didn't include them too and even more shocked I couldn't get them via eStore. I thought I'd lost them forever.
