My only concern from playing the unit is that the d-pad is awfully low on the bottom face. I'm curious to see how comfortable it will be to use down that low. Other than that, it felt great.

That's a good point. Especially for my small hands...

I'm wondering how the accelerometer is going to work with the 3D viewing angle.

miyamoto finally cleared this up:
"most people would think that putting a gyro that would encourage people to tilt the device would ultimately just result in the 3D effect being lost, because you're tilting it away from you at a different angle, but what's interesting is that with the gyro you can hold the device in front of you, and do these lateral movements in space like this [moves hands together left and right] and the gyro can detect that, and I think that'll allow for some pretty interesting gameplay mechanics."

you're not tilting the device, but just moving it side to side or front to back. that way you're still looking at the screen head on.

You know GameTrailers' animated cutscenes in their game reviews? The one where the game controller's a "spaceship" and you physically move the controller to dodge lasers and enemies? That'd make an awesome 3DS game.

Ok, but that's just for the gyro sensor. That's different from the accelerometer. With the accelerometer based games, you tilt the device, not move it on a lateral plane.

Hi.

The only thing I could imagine getting annoying about the system and that's only since I haven't held it yet, is just possibly how narrow the field of and depth of vision on it is on how you may have to sit and cock your head to face the screens right to get solid 3D without the double imaging. If this range is too small, I could see getting sore arms/neck after a little bit since I won't have the ability to waffle around as much and get comfy during a longer play stretch of time.

I probably won't like the touch screen size in comparison to the top screen size for regular DS games.

theres something that worries me... a lot.
My eyesight is /different/ for each eye, i have myopia in one eye and astigmatism in the other so the 3D may not work properly for me (unless i get a second set of glasses), because one of my eyes sees nearby objects or images blurrier than the other eye... it really bothers me!

Probably should keep facts like that to yourself.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Honestly, I can see myself playing regular DS games using the...um...analog stick...sliding...thing. I'm pretty sure you'll have the option to use it.

Hopefully the slide pad will be able to be used when playing regular DS games.....

@abgar it will probably work for you considering playing Lineup on the DSi. It doesn't work by looking at something with each eye individually (like glasses 3D), it changes by the angle of your head in comparison to the device.

I didn't like the fact that the DSi couldn't play GBA games, and the 3DS should be the same.
However, I could sell my DS once the 3DS comes out, and save my sister's GBA for GB/GBC/GBA games.

Im also worried about the placement of the stylus sheath, wont that also mean a shorter stylus? I compared the length of the stylus to the up and down position of the dsi and noticed how it would not fit if it were out in the back

No, it is telescopic. It slides into itself, and from what I have heard, auto extends as it is pulled out.

more uses for the motion control:

Wired.com: Is that going to be an issue, if people are developing games that use motion but that motion moves the 3-D screen out of a player’s field of view?

Konno: First of all, 3-D is not the only feature that we are pushing toward with this hardware. We think that there will be software that will emphasize motion control using the gyro. During our experiments, we have found that in a first-person shooter, we can use the sensor to move the aiming and the pointer. In that case, your line of sight is still quite rigid, your eyes are pointing at the screen, and so the 3-D effect won’t be diluted. So there is the possibility that both 3-D and motion control could be used in the same software.

i'd never thought of that...
