Topic: Is the 3DS the best Nintendo system since the GameCube?

I don't see Nintendo pulling the 3rd pillar idea (since they're already doing that with QOL).

I'd say DS was definitely meant to be a successor. They called it a "3rd pillar", but the fact that it had GBA BC and had more advancements over the GBA, basically means that they meant for it to be a successor. They were just playing it safe, by calling it a "3rd pillar.

If 3DS would have failed, we probably would have ended up getting a PSP type machine from Nintendo, because then they would have known that people weren't buying the touch screen, dual screen setup.

Thats what I'm thinking too, they probably figured worst case it fails and they stick with the GBA for a while longer. Best case they have a 3rd console to make money on for a while, but I doubt they'd have kept two handheld lines going after the GBA. If it failed we'd probably have a much stronger GBA SP now.

Having Backwards-compatibility and a lit screen on top of being the latest tech is what killed the GBA, most people wouldn't know it was a "3rd-pillar" and would just assume its the next console.

I think the 3DS is the best Nintendo console since the SNES, DS was also pretty good but 3DS is backwards compatible with DS and have awesome exclusives....... its original library already beats N64, GameCube, Wii and GBA...... only the DS has a better library but as I said, that library is also fully compatible with the 3DS

It has enough potential to be, but right now I still think both the DS and Wii were better.

I don't think the Gamecube was that good, honestly. The 3DS strongly stacks up to the best Nintendo has offered which includes the NES, SNES, and GBA.

The Gamecube kind of sucked. I'm a fan, but it was by no means one of the best Nintendo consoles ever. I'd argue it's one of the worst when you look at the sales and the dumb ideas Nintendo included in it. Small disc size just to be different and the beginning of Nintendo making it tougher for third parties than it needed to be.

They are very fortunate that the Wii was a home run. Two Gamecubes in a row would have been disastrous.

It does sport my favorite controller Nintendo ever made, though.

I was part of the crowd that thought Starfox, Metroid, RE4, Mario Sunshine, etc. was awesome. Sometimes I wished I had an Xbox or PS2 for a few games that didn't come to GCN, but otherwise, it was my preferred console. I got the GBA Player, when it fairly new, too, so I was playing GameBoy on my TV. I wasn't going to complain

I believe that the next Nintendo handheld should involve Gamecube games, Memory cards can now hold the same amount of data as a gamecube disc.
Gamecube games should fit in 3ds size cards.

The best stuff was on Dreamcast / Xbox / Gamecube.

PS2 exclusives were ok but other than that it was always the worst version. Hardly anything on the PS2 that doesn't look awful due to the amount of jagged edges. All looks muddy. If there is ever another version to the PS2 one it is always the best.

The Super NIntendo was my favorite NIntendo console of all time But if ranked in order....(Of ones i owned,or spent enough time playing to form an opinion)

Super Nintendo
Nintendo DS (I loved this thing for RPG's even as a Sony fan it saw as much if not more use than my PSP did)
Nintendo 3DS (So far)
Gameboy Advance (Or any variation there of)
Gamecube
N64
NES (Was a bigger master system fan back then)
Wii (Didn't like the direction Nintendo took with wii or Wii-U i give them credit for trying to revolutionize but...i really hate motion control gaming and the Wii-U i could drone on for hours about what i don't like about it,This is why i loved the DS so much and love the 3DS currently its gaming pure and simple a return to nintendos roots if you will)
Wii-U
Gameboy First gen (Always preferred my Gamegear minus the battery usage)

While I had a PS2, I didn't play a wide variety of games on it. Everyone that posts their opinions on the internet says great things about Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and Kingdom Hearts, but everything else seems more niche or was a multiplatform title. I don't even see much about Sly Cooper.

Bring up the GameCube and people rave about Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Melee, Luigi's Mansion, and Resident Evil 4.

Both libraries will be remembered fondly, but I have to say the GCN's might be reminisced in a slightly fonder light.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I loved the GC however my Dreamcast and PS2 saw infinite more use as the exclusives appealed to me more on the other two. That said the GC didn't sell as well as it SHOULD have given the impressive library it had,it was vastly under appreciated as a console.

But that's the thing GameCube only had a few games everybody who had one had to get because there was nothing else worthwhile on the console.... PS2 had titles to fill every niche, so there is no one title everyone raves about but everybody who owned one got titles they enjoyed... multiplatform was not even really a thing for most of the PS2 generation more than half of the games released on that generation were PS2 exclusives..... its the same with the PSOne, people who had N64 played primarily about 10 games Mario Kart, Goldeneye, Smash Bros and then some people also Mario 64 and the Zelda titles while PSOne had hundreds of titles where everybody could find something they liked....

I do agree that PS2 had the most exclusives but no, the majority of titles people cared about (at least when they were released) were multi-console.

Both are really good examples of how big a difference a decade could make. When they first came out...
-Everyone hated FFX-2
-No one played Okami or Killer 7
-FFXII was about as well received as X
-Luigi's Mansion had mixed opinions
-Viewtiful Joe mattered
-Jak and Daxter mattered (YMMV if it still does, but to me everyone talks about Ratchet and Clank and Sly Cooper instead)
-Games came out before Final Fantasy X
-Games came out after Resident Evil 4
-Wind Waker was controversial

basically none of this is true (or at least "true") now, which is weird to me

Most of the people I knew, that had a PS2, only got it, because their parents saw it as a DVD player/game machine.

There were tons of kids that had PS2, despite not having much interest in gaming. I saw PS2 turn alot of people into "gamers", but alot of them also weren't aware of GCN or Xbox. I know that sounds crazy, but not everyone grew up with N64, PS1, Sega, and were able to make a conscious decision about buying video games, into the upcoming generation.

There are no games on 3DS that you would really want to go back and play in 5 - 10 years time... The Gamecube has truckloads of those mofos
