@rsbhj
"One benefit of the 2DS XL was the learning games you can get for kids with maths, English etc"

Then, NDS games are the right answer for New 2DS XL.
Some of Educational NDS games:
1. Hi Hamtaro! Ham Ham Challenge
2. Are you smarter than 5th Grade
3. My Sims Agents
etc

But Switch also have some Educational games that mostly on Switch eshop as digital games format, not available in physical release.
There are some Educational Switch games as Sudoku, Tetris 99, Color Zen, etc.

My Top 6 games :
1. Dance Dance Revolution series (100)
2. Dragon Quest Builders 2 PS4/Switch (95)
3. The Sims 4 PS4 + All contents (93)
4. Portal Knights PS4 (90)
5. Final Fantasy VIII PS1 (90)
6. Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome Amiibo 3DS (89)

Nintendo’s online UK store is currently doing 2DS XL with 3 games for £135.

One game is preloaded on the system and you can choose from a range of other games for the others.

There is a black and green version with Mario Kart 7 preload or a white and lavender version with Tomadochi Life preloaded.

The range of games to choose from include Mario Maker and Pikmin I believe, so some good choices.

‘You swapped those 3 games for Pokemon Stadium? Where’s your pride? You’re dignity?!?

‘....I traded it for a Pikachu...’

@rsbhj nintendo stopped making 3ds/2ds games I'm pretty sure, and a lot of the games are already on the switch family except for things like ever oasis or rusty's real deal baseball and rhythm heaven - but if you are skeptic on the kids breaking the switch lite (which i would recommend over the 3ds/2ds) get a screen protecter and a case.

TBH, I would love the original 2DS if it had the upgraded internals. My dream is a 2DS with the XL size screens.

Those are some really specific examples considering there are tons of 3DS games that haven't been ported to Switch
