Topic: Is Pokémon Coming To An End?

Highly, highly doubt it. We may not get a main Pokemon game this year for 3DS, but X/Y and ORAS did very well sales wise so I don't see why it would end. Nintendo/GF may be putting the main series on hold for a year, but as for Pokemon ending? Not very likely.

I'd be fine if the main series ended as long as they continue to make spin-offs, such as the Mystery Dungeon games.
In my opinion, Pokemon spin-offs are the best part of Pokemon. Nowadays, they're pretty much the only reason I get slightly excited when I see the word "Pokemon" in my gaming news feed.

I think Pokemon spinoffs as we once knew them are basically gone at this point, they seem content to push F2P stuff like Shuffle and Rumble World over good ones like Mystery Dungeon and Ranger.

It's amusing to me how people find the series stale. "DUR IF ONLY I COULD CHOOSE WHAT GAMES TO BUY INSTEAD OF FORCING MYSELF TO BUY POKEMONS".

The thing is, I genuinely want to buy every Pokémon game... Purely because I love Pokémon games, and always have. I want to support the series as it's very close to my heart, but that doesn't mean I don't think it should change up a tad. Like I said, it's a confusing situation we're in.

That being said, you guys are right. I didn't really take into account the fact that there are always people new to the series, who will consider it new and exciting, which was a bit of a silly mis-judgement of me.

That's a very good point to make, actually. Pokémon spinoffs of late haven't had the same magic and polish that they used to, even one generation earlier. In fact, I'd say the DS era was home to the best Pokémon spinoffs ever. I would kill for a new Ranger game!

Isn't there a detective Pikachu game for the 3DS that has been in development for a few years coming out later this year? That may be the substitute title for a main series game(s). The way they also described the game, also made it sound as if it would take advantage of the New 3DS face tracking.

3DS games:

Mario Kart 7

Zelda OoT 3D

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars

Pokemon Black FC: 2666 2484 8599

Kid Icarus Uprising

Heroes of Ruin
and more.

Looking at Pokemon as just a game franchise is wrong. Pokemon is everywhere, and in Japan I think the Pokemon Movies still get Theater releases. Pokemon isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but if a franchise isn't growing it is shrinking. Honestly for the game series, it might be best to make the next game a home console version of Pokemon. If they took Pokemon to home console and used home console's unique features (such as a more consistent online for online multiplayer and possibly sharing a world with your friends) But the Pokemon franchise. as a whole, is still strong.

EDIT: Also Shuffle and Rumble World are very fun games. You may not like them compared to other spin-offs but they are fun.

Pokémon is too popular to just end. It might've lost a good amount of impact over time, but collaborations open up new possibilities, as well, which then target different audiences (latest example would be Pokkén Tournament).
The only problem is that we've had Pokémon for a long time now, and new ideas to use with the brand are becoming increasingly scarce, meaning that, eventually, Pokémon will only have content to define itself, not innovation or new features. I'm sure Pokémon won't end anytime soon, and it won't become less relevant, either, since it majorly defined a whole generation of kids, with newer generations also showing a lot of interest.

I do agree, as much as I love pokemon, it has grown stale. I grew up with the very first gameboy games and I still go back and plays those over any of the new ones. I have had Black 2 for 2 years now and I have started over about 3 times, never even getting to the 2nd gym before getting bored. I would love to see a re-remake of Red and Blue again though.

Why would it end? Just because a user that has played it since the beginning has gotten bored that merely means they have aged out. Or they are burned out from playing so many in succession (which is why i usually skip a gen or two) For every 30year old that goes "I'm done" there are 15 10 year olds going "Cool! Pokemon!"

I'm all for innovation, but sometimes it feels like many of the people burnt out on a series forget that they are no longer the target demographic. If you have fun with a series a decade later that is great but most of the time the creators don't actually expect you to keep hanging on.

my kids love Pokemon and prefer gaming on consoles/handhelds to apps on my iPod or tablet. I don't think Pokemon is going anywhere. it`s way too popular in Japan for one thing.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

If the 3DS isn't replaced before the next batch of remakes I think they should remake Red/Blue. Right now all generations except the first, can be played on a 3DS. Also a remake of the original games with the 3D graphics could be fantastic.

If they're doing Kanto re-remakes, they should (and probably will) completely overhaul the games, they've aged poorly and none of the remakes have done anything to fix that. The area design and storyline are so simplistic that they feel like they were written by their target audience. Oh yeah, and can we please get an actual dex expansion this time? Kanto really needs it if for no other reason than there's almost nothing to use against Sabrina.

Correct time period. Different genre. Just take the mainline pokemon series way back in time instead. All of them take place in the present with advance tech and stuff. I'm personally more curious as to how it would of have been like a couple centuries ago.
