I don't care if it's E or M, just please for the love of Arceus stop making games that are dumbed down mobile wannabes. It's insulting to design a game with the mentality that everyone playing it is an ADD 5 year old that can't play for more than 2 minutes and needs their hand held the entire way through, and the series really feels like a shell of its former self as a result.
I'd like that franchise to grow with it's actual audience.
If you are asking for an M rated Pokemon game, you are not the target audience. Nintendo does not make Pokemon games for you.
"Actual audience," as you call it, is always shrinking. Or at very, very best (never case scenario), stagnant. Until human beings learn to clone themselves or perform mitosis, "actual audience" can never grow. It's foolish to run a business that way. As publishers, Nintendo should always be looking to expand their audience, not alienate it.
This is why the Wii U sells like crap. Nintendo spent too much time focusing on "core" Nintendo fans that have been around since Gamecube or earlier and not enough trying to court new consumers, like the Wii did. Problem is that the number of "core" Nintendo fans is shrinking with every generation and this time, the 60 million soccer moms who bought a Wii weren't interested in another piece of hardware.

Are you talking about Gen 6? Or spin-offs like Rumble and Shuffle?
most kids don't need their hands held while playing Pokemon. And even if they do, what does it matter to you. Pokemon has always been catered to kids. If you don't like how GameFreak is doing things then stop buying their games. I, for one, love Pokemon Rumble World and Pokemon Shuffle. And apparently other people do since it`s past 3 million downloads.
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
Lol, yeah, no. They're not turning pokemon into a mature title. We're just going to have to face the fact it's a kids game and nothing more, and will always be targeted towards that audience and age group, whether we of an older generation like it or not. Bad enough we have players underaged playing mature games like 12 year olds on CoD, we're now asking for pokemon, to basically warp into a violent graphical game with the standards of a bootleg title...
I was hoping these low standards of smogonites, mature audiences, and controversal extremist would slowly dwindle away.. looks to be quite the opposite (bar extremist which have left the franchise alone for awhile now). If you aren't having fun with the franchise because it's too immature and centralized around younger audiences with it's content, then it's time to move on and find another interest, not completely change the current franchise in your favor.
Lmao, you can even see GF's atempt to censor the games too, and here we are declaring that the franchise needs to implement more modern generation oriented content; which is basically blood, gore, cursing, FPS, and drugs. We don't need more of it.

Whilst 3 millions is an impressive number put in the context of it's a free game on a console with a userbase of over 50million from a franchise that can sell at least 10million it doesn't seem that impressive.

While I don't think Pokemon should be a mature title, I think it needs to go back to the respect it had for it's audience's intelligence in earlier generations. Right now Pokemon games hold your hand far too much. An example I like to use is the Snorlax blocking the path in X/Y vs. in earlier games. In earlier games, you ran into the Snorlax and it was up to you to ask around and learn how to get around it. In X/Y, the game switches to a cutscene and tells you "you need a Pokeflute, go here to get one, then we'll play it and Snorlax will move".
Also, on the topic of censorship, Game Freak needs to weaken their filter. Sometimes people's names have parts that are common with vulgar phrases, but that needs to still be acceptable.

If Gamefreak remakes Pokemon Platinum and announces it at this year's E3 then I will literally forgive Gamefreak for how they've been handling recent Pokemon games lately. Just remake it!!! Please!!! Remake the entire game and don't cut anything out! Its my favorite game of all time! Gamefreak please do this....

Are you talking about Gen 6? Or spin-offs like Rumble and Shuffle?
All of the above, plus 5th gen for bonus points because that's where this mentality started to manifest in the main games. The main games in 5th gen took a sudden 180 to make the games more accessible to a younger audience, but they did so by limiting content and player's choice to make the game more dumbed down. Regions went from being vast worlds that you could freely explore to being linear railroads where the game forced you down a particular path. Trainer rosters became simpler to decrease the game's challenge. The game constantly gave you hints that experienced players didn't need and held your hand for the entire game. Like @iKhan said, the game insulted your intelligence. And then 6th gen went further in this direction and made things even worse, they started cutting corners with game content and removing extra features to the point where the replay value has become shallow. Compare XY with RS, DP, and BW1 and ORAS with FRLG, Emerald, Platinum, HGSS, and BW2 and you'll see a huge difference in content, the 6th gen games have almost nothing to do in the post game, and XY has almost nothing to do period.
On the spinoff front, the games went in a similar direction. Deeper, more satisfying spinoffs like Mystery Dungeon and Ranger started to dumb down and eventually disappear in favor of shallow F2P games like Shuffle and Rumble World. It's not just the main games and the spinoffs, the entire series has transitioned in this direction, going from larger, more satisfying games that both kids and adults alike could enjoy to cheaper, shallower games that only appeals to kids and mobile fans. Frankly it's insulting, not just to the older fans who loved and grew up with this series, but to the series itself for becoming something that only appeals to the lowest common denominator.

Considering Game Freak's current mentality towards the series and the way ORAS was handled, this is a complete pipe dream at this point since Platinum goes against everything modern Game Freak stands for. It's pretty much a given that something's going to be cut because "not enough people would enjoy it". You can pretty much kiss the Battle Frontier goodbye at this point, that's pretty much certain. A lot of Platinum's storyline elements like the Distortion World will probably also be gone. I wouldn't even be surprised if they took out/redesigned the entire Battle Zone so it's just the Fight Area, the Battle Tower, and Stark Mountain, because apparently kids don't have time for good post games anymore. Whatever they do with Sinnoh remakes they probably won't do the originals justice, you can bet on that.
I do think X/Y was actually a step in the right direction from B/W1 though. B/W1 not only held your hand like crazy, it pretty much distilled all puzzles to "walk straight in the only way possible". X/Y's puzzles weren't amazing, but they definitely felt like they were trying harder than B/W1 was. Lumiose City also had a little more freedom, although some of that probably came from the terrible problem of having no idea where you are or where you were going.

But Black and White's story is wayyyy better than X/Y. Looking back on X/Y, that story really is bad and embarrassing.

I'm very sad and shocked Gamefreak didn't continue using Distortion World and various other awesome elements in PK Platinum. Just a waste.

I never really noticed any difference in the puzzles aside from 5th gen clearing most of the HMs away (which is one of the few good changes that 5th gen made), so I wouldn't exactly say that 6th gen has made any noticeable change in region design philosophy. And for everything 6th gen did do right, it also did something wrong. Ultimately I don't think it's really any better than 5th gen.

As far as the lack of figuring things out yourself... meh, I really have no opinion here since I bought walkthroughs for all my pokemon games anyway (bar x/y) due to information on pokemon's locations and such (which unlike when I was 7.., I now know I can instead consult the internet for that kind of stuff...)
In reality, this generation is the easiest single player wise.. but the hardest and most unappealing gen to play with others with. Call me biased out of my mind, but I never seen such an overcompetitive generation to the point of no innovation when building teams. This affects younger audience too since the competitive players, particularly smogonites, are much larger in mass than casual players.. BW was a little crazy in the competitive scene, but not by much, people still used fun gimmicks and their favorite mons. This gen, don't bother, only use what's good and there is practically an answer to any gimmick you try.

This is why I wished Gamefreak actually talked to seasoned Pokemon gamers and asked for feedback. We know how to cater to guys like us while still impressing the kid crowd.

I'm in the minority here, but I like X/Y's story a lot more than B/W's. B/W's story felt very corny to me. I totally acknowledge that Pokemon is akin to animal fighting and laugh it off as a game, but B/W tried to turn it into some complex problem and justify it.
X/Y's pacing was awful, but I actually loved Lysandre as a villain and the entire "end of the world" sequence.
@Bolt_Strike In regards to the region as a whole, some of the caves went back to trying to be a maze (with varying success). The ice location had some mild sliding puzzles, the Pokemon Village straight up stumped me, and there were some open areas such as the open sea that led to the Sea Spirit's den. The big issue was that there was that those few open areas had very little optional content in them. B/W was basically a straight line where you read story and fought battles. You didn't really run into a maze or puzzle until the post game (I don't consider walking forward, pressing the only switch available, and moving on to be a puzzle, which was 90% of what B/W's "puzzles" were).
Call me crazy, but I actually think having more HMs adds to the sense of exploration and player agency. When there are more HMs, there are more hidden locations that the player may have to take note of and visit later. Would I prefer them to completely replace HMs with optional items like a hatchet? Yes, very much.
@MegaBeedrill
I haven't played competitive in several months (pre OR/AS), but I actually feel like X/Y is way more competitive than B/W was due to the weather nerf. My big issue is that Smogon's philosophy as to what should and shouldn't be banned has changed.
And looking back on it... Is the Fairy type and Megaevolution just a bad idea? I think Megas are interesting and bad at the same time. Cool to look at but poor execution in a actual battle.

@iKhan Bro... You liked Lysandre from X/Y? How?! He was boring! Not even intimating! Cyrus from Team Galactic and Ghetis from Black and White both easily stop Lysandre as a villain! N from Black and White is sooo much cooler than that poorly explained Pokemon War and that huge guy, AZ from X/Y I think.
Hahahaha just my... opinion.
