Playing Nintendo video games is about as childish as watching Pixar movies. I would only be concerned if my partner played this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJABoLPyQx8
I'm 25 and I watch Mickey Mouse cartoons; Brave Little Tailor is my favourite, a masterpiece of animation I think!
Unfortunately part of the issue is youth. Doing something you enjoy isn't childish and only a child or a person with a childish mindset is concerned about how such an hobby appears to others. I'd use the CS Lewis quote but I just woke up. Some hobbies stay with you all your life. I've been gaming since I was three, and I'll be thirty this year. Many people that don't share a hobby don't understand "why" someone finds it worthwhile to pursue, so if one cannot understand, one often attacks. For this person, since you care about her, just explain to her that playing games is something that you enjoy, and just as she has things that she enjoys these interests don't define one's age (or perception of age) and they aren't a threat to your relationship, or your self image, but instead are just a part of your personality as are the other things about you that she appreciates.

"Critics who treat adult as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
Not really. The only reason I wouldn't play one in public is in case it gets stolen (phones are usually more easily replaceable, for those on a contract).
Well, playing a 3ds or any nintendo console is childish... playing games, especially video games is childish in itself. Personally I am over 30 and I just got rid of my x360 because it was too mature for me, playing nintendo reminds me of my childhood and makes me feel better. Besides, who wouldnt wanna be a child again?
@Barbiegurl777 Having a different hobby than other people does not make you an oddball. At least you don't get into fights because some kid kicked a ball into a goal
This. If she's not supportive, you won't be happy in the long run. You should talk to her first and explain your hobby. My wife called me childish for playing videogames before then I explained I've been playing videogames since I was a kid and she should respect that. She eventually accepted it, but of course you gotta show you're responsible in your relationship/role.
Now that I have a New 3DS for 2 weeks (I only play PC and console before), I purposely play in public even with adult friends around (We're in our 30s) and my wife don't mind at all (unless we're having a chat with friends of course). I also want to show those teens around that it's okay to play Nintendo games.

Right on! Show those teens
As far as the GF is concerned, talk face to face and see how it goes. Relationships are always give and take. Talk and listen and so forth.

I mean those teens who thinks they are cool and "mature" and only play GTACODestiny on their PSBox. Who happens to play mobile warfare on their phone/tablets.
35+ and still a hardcore gamer. Believe me when I say entertainment does not get any better after 18. In life there is reading, movie watching, drinking, or gaming for entertainment. That's about it.
No more childish than playing any other video game console, in my eyes. That is to say, not really. It's a hobby. I wouldn't call it childish. I think gaming has come a long way in public perception compared to the 80's and 90's.
I'm 18 and own a 3ds and my girlfriend calls me childish? What are your opinions about playing the nintendo 3ds as an adult? (I'm bad at coming up with reasons in arguments help please?).
I am 20
and I play on the 3ds
